    Home gym layout

Looking for some ideas on the best place to put my rack in my gym. The room is 11 ft x 18 ft but can only use half the room. (11 ft x 9 ft). I think the 2 options are place it against the 11 ft wall or against the 9 ft wall. The rack is 61.5" long and 51" wide.

I'm leaning towards putting it against the 9 ft wall (option 2 in the pic)

I'll assume that ceiling height is no issue in the room.

What's in the other half on the 9' side? If it's still open area that you can infringe on while you're lifting, I'd probably locate the rack against the 9' side, as close to the 11' side corner as I could get while leaving enough room to load the bar. I like having at least 18"' past the end of the bar open for loading (10' total), but less is possible if you can't cross into the other half of the room (and don't mind squeezing). This would give you a 9x6ish open area for any other equipment, or a little less if you're got plate storage/racking area at the back of your rack.

There's stuff on the other side of the room but it's not totally blocked off. I could move some stuff around so it's not in the path of the bar.

If you can cheat a little bit on the 9', I'd put he rack there. Ideally, you want 18" at each the end of the bar for loading. So if you put it on the 9' wall, 18" off the corner, and can still lean into the other half of the room to load plates, that's the best use of space.

This is the dimensions of the rack. So if I put it 3 ft away from the 11 ft wall, and 1 ft away from the 9 ft wall I should be ok

Finally bought my rack and am in the process of setting it up. I've decided to put it against the 9 ft wall. Trying to save as much space as I can and want to get it right before putting down my mats. Will putting the plate storage section 11" (to the center of the weight horn) from the wall be enough space to load and unload the plates. Will putting the rack 3 ft from the side wall be enough room to load and unload the bar.

Assuming that you will be using a 7ft bar, as I understand it you will have 12" on each side to load the bar, that's doable but tight, especially if you're loading a lot of plates. in my first home gym I had my rack against a 9'6" long wall, I managed okay, but I cursed the tight space many times.

11" inches away from the wall should be okay, but again depending on the type of plate storage you intend using it may be awkward. Ideally I like at least 48 inches clear on each side of the rack, but I realise we all have to work with the space we have.

Here's my Rogue rack and Rogue bar on an 11 foot wall to give you an idea of space needed around it.

Ya, it's tight, having a small place sucks. I might be able to get an extra inch but can't go to far over or the rack will hit the light. The other side has no wall so it'll be tight on the one side.
