I did a study with a take home machine from the dr and they said I need one after I brought it back and read it. I stopped breathing like 5 times in my sleep. I never went back and got the mask though. Only because I’m not tired when I wake up, I just snore hard.
    I love eggs.

Over half of people stopped wearing their masks after one year. You have to sleep on you back, your wife has to listen to it, it’s a pain in the ass to clean.

Just sleep in a nice reclining chair, or try a wedge pillow (which makes you sleep on your back too).

Try one for a month, esp of you are a back sleeper anyway.

Ordering a sleep study and using a CPAP is the single best thing I've done to improve my quality of life. I went from sleeping for 10 hours a day and waking up exhausted from 6-7 hours and feeling invigorated. Do it.

There are newer masks that allow you to sleep on your side. Newer machines are also smaller and quieter than ever.

I’ve been using mine for a year and a half, and although sleeping on your back would be beneficial,I sleep on my sides and have very little issues with my mask . Have to adjust once on a while.
    And sleeps are improved .
Although the machines are fairly quiet, you can hear the air etc. I am a light sleeper and fell asleep with no issues the very first night .
Most people can’t use them , but I’m fine with it and find I’m more awake during the day .
I use the mask that covers the nose , not a full mask. I find if I don’t shave for a few days that it’s hard to get a good seal . If there’s an air leak, there’s no chance of sleeping .
So I have no idea how they work with people who have facial hair

There’s also a correlation with led lights and insomnia, as the intense blue light that leds emit, depletes your natural melatonin

Apnea is usually a fat man's game. I use an app called Sleep as Android, it can tell you if you have apnea, It will also wake you up at the most optimal time so you feel rested, and not like crap. Give that a try first.
"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. . . . Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place." -Tecumseh

Do you feel like chit regardless of how long you slept? Hearing your self snore means you just snore terribly. Only sure way is to get a sleep study. When I was fat and snagged terribly I basically would wake myself snoring and it vanished when I lost weight

It's not only obese people, but it's a lot more common for obese people since it deals with the soft tissue in your mouth.

OP, I would get a sleep study done at the hospital or a home sleep study. I remember getting diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was kid. The mask is annoying asf, try to get the nasal hose for the machine. If your body is having a hard time getting oxygen because of your fked up air passage then yeah, the sleep apnea mask will work.

OP, the system I used was connected to a cell network ,and they could adjust it remotely. You bring the memory card to them and they check and see if you’ve improved .
Also they test it with an oxygen sensor that you wear on your finger connected to a oxygen saturation machine during night time . This way they can see if it’s helping as it’s moneriting your oxygen saturation

Do it! It's a pain in the ass to get the machine but it's worth it. I got tired of dealing with insurance and just bought the machine outright. Before, I woke up feeling like chit every day, had chit memory, and Jeb! energy levels. I could sleep for 12 hours and wake up tired, now I wake up feeling like a boss even after minimal sleep, ride my bike 20 miles, and still have tons of energy all day. It's literally changed my life for the better.

My machine is automatic. So it starts out at low pressure and ramps up when it senses that I need more pressure and will lower the pressure when not needed. It also drops the pressure everytime I exhale so it's more comfortable to breathe.

Try one for a month, esp of you are a back sleeper anyway.
This is not true. And please don't become a reclinercell.

    1. I used to sleep 100% on my stomach, now I sleep on my back and sides - not because I have to, because it's more comfortable. But usually I fall asleep on my back, sleep all night uninterrupted, and wake up on my back because I'm comfy as fuk
    2. I have an Airsense10 with an AirFit P10 mask and it is very quiet. My wife usually sleeps with her head on my chest. When I spoon her sometimes the air flow out of the mask blows in her ear she covers her ear with a blanket and problem solved.
    3. It takes me a total of 10 minutes to clean once a week. That includes 5 minutes of soaking time.

I use one. I snore really bad and the wife hates it, it's genetics because my mom snores just as bad as I do. I've been using mine for about 2 years now and will never go back to never using it.

Prior to using it I used to track my sleep with my Fitbit and I would get lots of restless times during the night. I know Fitbit isn't exactly accurate but I went from having 45 mins of restless sleep (where I'm moving all the time) and having very short spans of where I'm actually in deep sleep (longest probably being an hour), to reducing my restlessness/moving by a huge margin. After using my CPAP my uninterrupted/not moving sleep stretches to up to 3 hours at times.

This is what it looks like when I'm not using my CPAP:

This is when I do use my CPAP:

Health benefits have been great. I'm never lathargic or feel sleepy. I don't even nap anymore. I have tons of energy during the day, and gym recovery has been great. Pretty sure my test is through the roof right now, bonrar.gif have been strong as fuark! Also I had borderline hypertension prior to using CPAP, not the case anymore. It's a pain in the ass to put on and I used to sleep on my side but I have to sleep on my back now and have gotten used to it.

Get one of the take home kits to test it out first. I thought I had sleep apnea but after I did the test they said theres no sleep apnea, so no point getting a CPAP machine

Just wanted to add that people with sleep apnea (stop breathing in their sleep) tend to be more restless because your body is constantly waking you up to readjust and reposition because you can't breathe or have stopped breathing.

I don't have sleep apnea but I heard some people can get some oral piece you wear while you sleep that (I'm guessing) pulls your lower jaw forward a little bit to keep your airway from getting obstructed while you sleep.

CPAP/APAP equipment has come a looong way in recent years. Machines are quieter than ever, and there are a bunch of good mask options for people who don’t like to sleep on their back.

I use the Phillips Dreamwear and it’s awesome:

Nah man, lots of regular size folks have sleep apnea. It’s a lot more common than you think. I’ve never been fat and I still got a wicked case of it.

They do. Its tough to get use to them though. At least it was for me. The thing is, you have to see a specialist (usually a lung physician or sometimes a neurologist) to do a sleep study on you. I spent the night at the hospital (because we dont have a clinic that is equipped for patients overnight) and they hooked me up with ECG leads on my head, EKG leads, an abdominal and thoracic strain gauge (to monitor my heart rate/rythym respiration rate), and O2 tube in my nose and a pulse oximeter. There were a bunch of cameras on me too. Some were very focused and watched my eyes for REM sleep i guess. It was odd because when you are hooked up to all that stuff, you have to piss right next to the bed in a jug. I had a super high snore rating and woke up 5 or 6 times per hour. If i recall correctly, i stopped breathing for almost 40 seconds one time.

Once i got the CPAP (some people get a BIPAP), i couldnt tell much of a difference because i still woke up a lot (might have been due to the mask). It takes 2 weeks to get your "pressure" and a few days for you to figure out what the humidity level should be at for you. Too high and you'll feel like you are drowning.

My dad FINALLY had a sleep study done and the doctor called him the DAY he completed his study to put him on a CPAP and an O2 purifier thing. He had it REALLY bad. It was so bad that he developed Atrial Fibrillation from it. He was put on tons of meds, when that didnt work well enough, they had to sedate him, then shock his head back into normal sinus rhythym. Twice. When that didnt take, he had to have a catheter snaked up his leg and had something done to his heart that has worked well. Get yourself checked OP
