Today I was doing a 45min high intensity full body workout, and about halfway through I was doing a superset of dips and farmer carries. Did 10 dips on the first set, and only 6 on the second. Realized I was running out of gas so I took a 4 minute break to chug a 60g carb / 20g whey protein shake, then came back and did a set of 22 dips (new PR). Holy ****, what an effect.
Problem with fruit smoothie carbs is that they're 50% fructose and fructose sucks. What are other good options for intra workout carbs?

Sorry but the 4 minute break is what caused you to have such a drastic increase in reps, not the intra shake.

Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

You need SizeOn by Gaspari Nutrition. Not kidding.
It's literally everything you need for a workout (and tastes great) performance carbs, bcaa's, creatine, etc. I never run out of gas during a workout, ever. And I'm turning 40 years old this week. It's a big factor for me (SizeOn for years and years now) and I truly mean that. Definitely worth a look.

Learn to listen to your body and know when you're recovered enough to hit your next set. I wouldn't drink protein intra as the thought of it makes me want to vomit honestly. lol
Carbs can be nice intra, but a natural fruit smoothie would be healthier than a carb product which is basically just pure sugar. However, I do take Iso-Carb intra on heavier higher volume days. It's currently on sale for $9.99 in the BB.com store.Supplement a good diet: don't diet on supplements.

Your liver can store 1,500-2,000 calories worth of glycogen. i doubt you burned through that in 45 minutes unless you had been fasting for a while prior.

Actually sugar water starts absorbing instantly through the stomach. It doesn't even need to empty into the intestines. All water soluble nutrients are that way. Alcohol is partially absorbed in less than a minute too. Water soluble stuff can even be partially absorbed through your mouth before you swallow it. People take melatonin that way to bypass the liver's first pass effect.
Fructose can't even be used by your body until the liver converts it, so it is NOT a fast carb. Usually the liver converts it into fat. Google "Sugar: The Bitter Truth".

As others have mentioned, it was most likely the 4 minute break.
I personally wouldn't want a carb/prtoein shake intra workout as it would make me feel bloated.
Just try to get come carbs in an hr or 2 before working out.Myprotein's Official Bodybuilding.com Lead Representative ✔

Best Intra product I've had and still stands as one of my favorite supplements is Gaspari's Sizeon.
For me I can tell the difference in my performance when using something like Sizeon. Some days I get in a breakfast prior to lifting so I don't necessarily need a intra supplement.
Most times though I don't get that meal in and I head right into the gym in the morning, epecially those 5 AM sessions. Those are the times that Sizeon really delivers for me.My training log: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=178464441

For intra products its super hard to top Size On.
Our product AminoFast is legit as well, I notice a nice boost in endurance when I use it, and sometimes thats literally sometimes the only cals ive had at that point of the dayKrispy Kreme Krew Forever.
