Thanks man! I'm a little under 3 weeks out and getting towards the end of my cycle. So next week will be my singles week but not at 100% intensity. Usually the week following singles week would have me doing compounds at 8 reps. So the plan is to alter that and go higher intensity singles for another week while still keeping the volume high and doubling up on the frequency of SBD by adding in some high intensity/low volume sets spread throughout the week. Start to taper at about 9 days out with the accessories in place. Then cut out the accessories and deload to 60% on SBD for a few days, get in one day of practicing my openers, then 2 days of total rest before the meet.

As for the diet, I was contemplating between dropping down to the U74 class since I would have a far better shot there than in the U83. But I chose to prioritize putting out my best numbers over sacrificing my overall progress just for a medal. So I'll be continuing to go strong with the bulk and hopefully break my PRs! (excluding the stupid paused bench -_- so used to touch and go!)

Sounds like a pretty solid plan. Looking forward to seeing the results. Gotta go with the intentions of beating yourself rather than beating others.

Will make sure to get someone to record the lifts. Definitely am playing the me vs me game. Not really a powerlifter so the medal doesn't mean as much to me as beating my best lifts.

Decided not to plug in my last deadlift and bench days since its been more of SBD days and deloading. Made some nice PRs so will upload the videos for that later.

Weight shot up a bit too fast, +0.7875kg from last time to put me at 78.34kg. Probably due to the deload.

    Powerlifting meet recap

So, finally coming round to talking about this. As someone who only really cares about hypertrophy, this was a real shake to the system! Even though I didn't change up the training so much, the psychological shifts that needed to be made were a test indeed and I am satisfactory for pushing myself to try out something that was so outside of my comfort zone.

    Squat

    Pre-comp PR = 125kg

    Comp PR= 127.5kg

Started my first attempt on 115kg, went up to 122.5kg which was feeling wobbly as anything and moving really slowly. So I was hit with a doubt right at the beginning but backed myself to just take a shot at the 2.5kg PR. After all, that was what I was there for and the 122.5kg hadn't really gotten stuck during the movement. Got under 127.5kg, dropped down and got absolutely stuck in the middle and boy did it get dramatic!

    https://vimeo.com/292715127

    Bench

    Pre-comp PR = 85kg

    Comp PR = 95kg

Bench press and me have had a rather love-hate relationship ever since I started lifting. Leading up to this competition, it was the lift which I was most unsure about, mainly due to all the cues. Have I ever done a paused bench before? Sure.... as a lift weight accessory! All my bench press numbers have been just touch and go and the slammed back into the rack. Having to pause and wait to start, then paused on the chest to lose all momentum, then having to pause again at the top... It was a lot of pausing haha. And initially it sucked, tried my first pause about 3 weeks out and could only get up 60kg. So my confidence wasn't exactly in a good place moving into the comp. But after that 3rd attempt on the squat, I was fired up.

1st attempt went quite smoothly at 82.5kg. I was contemplating whether to go for 87.5kg at that point, but given how smoothly it went I shot for the 90kg, getting it quite nicely, still all white lights. Considering that technique was my main fear, having that out of the way gave me the room I need to really focus on pushing through and snagging that 95kg on the 3rd attempt. Hmm, makes me think that that clean 225 bench isn't too far off now!

    https://vimeo.com/292715714

    Deadlift

    Pre-comp PR = 160kg

    Comp PR = 165kg

Ah well, this lift was probably my only regret during this whole comp which is ironic since deads was what I am normally most confident about during my usual training. 1st attempt went for a messy, slow 150. So kept it conservation to go for a 3rd attempt PR rather than a 2nd attempt one like I did with squats. Went for 157.5kg on the 2nd which was just as slow as the first and my technique was getting sloppy, still got all 3 white lights but I mean more from a safety standpoint. At this point I was really conflicted whether to do for a conservative PR or go for a big one. I have managed to break 180kg off the floor before but have hurt myself in the process which was constantly in the back of my mind. Finally deciding that getting potentially hurt again wasn't worth it, especially after blasting through my own expectations so far in this meet. So went for 165kg and for whatever reason it moved faster than the first two attempts! Technique was still sloppy but got the 3 white lights and the instant I got it past my knees I was regretting not going heavier. But came back home and reinforced the fact that it is a 5kg PR which I normally wouldn't have attempted if it was just a usual training block.

    https://vimeo.com/292716427

    Summary

As a conclusion, squats, I think I nailed that 3rd lift at the max possible RPE that I could go for. Bench, I mighttt have had another 2.5kg but I couldn't be happier with that +10kg PR which I'm still shocked by, especially considering it was a pause bench while my previous 85kg was a touch and go. Deadlifts, I reallyyy felt I had more in me. But on the good side, getting that PR and feeling that I could do better has left me with an itch to become much better at deadlifts. Time to hop on that Ed Coan deadlift program or whatever the hell these powerlifters use :P

Squat and bench kept me in the top 3 right throughout the comp within my weight class. Deadlifts on the other hand dropped me out during the last attempt quite badly so my total wasn't up to par. But like I've always said, its a fight between you and yourself, your main job is to beat the man that you were yesterday. Got a nice little spot prize for the most exhilarating squat too! Haha.

    Macro 12, Micro 1 - Pull up/OHP day

Pull ups (13.5kg) - 8,8,8 <-- These felt awful after the 1st set. Could be the double progression due to weight gain or just still being groggy after the meet.

    OHP (43.5kg) - 8,8,9 <--- Now these felt fantastic

    Cable rows (68kg) - 8,8,8

Incline dumbell bench (22kg each) - 8,8,8 <--- Started off with 28s and was going fine but I've been feeling a bit of a niggling pain in my lower pec when getting that weighted stretch at the bottom and it's been there since before the meet so decided to take a step away. The pains still there at the 22s but its nothing that inhibits my ability to lift, but better just to be on the safe side.

    Bicep curls (53kg) - 8,8,8
