My wife was going through some old books and found our high school yearbook. In it was a picture of my car.
This is a genuine 1974 impala with a 350sb. I paid 350$ for it. All the floor boards in the back were rusted out, only one windsheild wiper worked and well....it was no looker.
I went to walmart and bought 14 cans of flat black spray paint and painted the entire car, inside and out. Next I had my brother lay on the hood and I masked and painted around his body as if it was a crime scene. I had some crime scene tape, but it did not stay on there long.
Needless to say, some cool kids had their camaros.....but I had this beauty. I slept more than a few nights in it, too drunk to get back home. I could never get my girlfriend (now my wife in the back though ). But it came through for plenty of other buddies.
My older brother begged to borrow it and let me take his brand new blazer for 3 days as a swap. When he brough my car back to me, he dropped it off at school. Later the next day, he was pissed at me, and I said "whats up?". He called me an ungreatful a$$hole becasue he filled up my 25gal tank for me when he dropped it off.
I told him.....oh....you cant put more than a 1/4 tank in because there is a rust hole in the tank and it just leaks out!

I had a 74 mustang II, it had the 2.3L 4 in it. It was basically a pinto. It was probably a very sound car for me at the time because it was god awfully slow, otherwise I probably would have killed myself in it. Its various electrical gremlins would cause it to stall out various reasons at the worst possible times. Its crazy to think that a few years earlier they were producing models with a 429 in it.
Please record my time/reps if I pass out

Well, I wasn't a "cool kid" but I had a 327 1969 Camaro for the final semester of high school and through college. No A/C, no FM radio, and an 8 track installed under the dash. For some reason, I couldn't wait to trade in that car after graduating from college. Worst decision I ever made. Wish I still owned that car.

I started off with a 1983 Honda Accord, then bought and restored a 1976 CJ5, drove that for a summer and most of the winter before trading that for a Mitsubishi pickup, then to a 1985 f-150 4x4 I got hit head-on by a drunk driver in that, bought an 87 accord with stick and drove that through college (selling it after for about what I paid) and buying a new Ford Explorer I drove to 260k then my current 4Runner. I had a lot of cars in that time frame the CJ-5 was awesome in the summer, Cold AF in the winter. Terrible heater and crappy aftermarket top. Had a lot of fun in that though. Lots of strip mine ground that we could trespass and wheel in back then.
I had friends that had hot rods and hoopties so that was covered.

Hilarious, ID
My first car was a 1965.5 Mustang. Yellow. Not the 289, but a 6-cyl. It looked good, but I could seriously run faster than that car. Wish I still had it.
As a senior in HS, I got a 1969 Camaro RS. I was working at Sears Auto after school but i didn't have the money to make it cool. My brother took it out one night and had a wreck, of course, and it was totalled. I thought I was going to dieHelping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.

I don't know about cool but this was my first ride.... a hand me down from the parents. 1971 Plymouth Sport Suburban Wagon with a 360 that kept on breaking motor mounts.
We called it the draggin' wagon and it saw lots of stuff that only teenagers would consider doing.
While it wasn't a looker, I am in love with these type of hideaway headlights. Kind of reminds of me of the older Chargers.
The pain is short term. The benefits are long term.

Didn't look (or run) anything like ^^^^ this when I bought it (front-end damage from a fender-bender, and a worn-out motor and tranny) when I was a junior in high school. But I knew what it was going to be when I was done with it, and I earned the money for needed parts by working at a big catering house parking cars at night, and working on rich kids' cars on the weekends when I wasn't working on the Chevy. No brain, no gain.

The original engine (a 283, 2 bbl/ powerglide tranny), upon disassembly, was so worn-out it wasn't worth a rebuild. As a stop-gap (while I saved up the $$$ to build what I wanted), I bought a used 283 from the local wrecking yard (I knew one of the owners, had been doing a lot of business with him, and he practically gave me the engine), and dropped it in while also converting it to 3-speed standard. About a year later (IIRC), I had enough money and parts amassed to build a new engine from the block-up, change over to a 4-speed trans, and replace the Chevy rear end with one from a same-years Olds (much stronger carrier, r&p, and axles).
thnx. That was the first of many cars owned and built---and sold---and I wish I still had just about all of them.
If it were possible to get just one of them back, it would be that '57 though. No brain, no gain.

Lulz. thnx, but I think it's just because of the time in which I grew up; it was the '60s, during the golden age of the muscle car, and hot rodding and high performance was at it's peak of popularity. Everybody was into cars back then; every one of my friends had similar cars that they had built themselves; every high school parking lot around was filled with either hot rods like mine or new muscle cars and Corvettes. I imagine that if there were more posters my age here, there would be more posts of cars like my '57.
No brain, no gain.

Started out with a '62 Nova 4 door given to me by my parents as a junior. Then I got a '64 Dodge Polara 2 door big block as a senior, had the pushbutton transmission. Ended up wrecking that drag racing, and got a '66 Mercury with a 390. Next car was a '66 Buick Wildcat fastback coupe with a '67 430 engine that I drove for about 15 years.
The Buick was identical to this, except with black interior:

The 283's were damn good engines, not the most powerful but would live forever.
The 1st car I owned was a 69 Olds 98 just like this one even down to the color. Had the 455 Rocket with a 4bbl quadrajet carb. Bought it from my moms uncle in 79, he was the original owner and the car was rustfree & still had the factory plastic covers on the seats which were the 1st thing I yanked out of it. I paid $250 for it and now days I doubt you could buy the emblems for that amount.

Good stuff so far.
My father bought all of us kids our first cars. He wouldn't let us have anything small because he knew that we were going to wreck at some point early on.
I was driving by 10th grade ('83) and he bought me a mint Mercury Grand Marquis coupe like this minus the rear wheel skirts. White with a dark red top and interior. I couldn't have been happier. Power everything.

Dad was right, one day I got stuck behind a car turning left on a 2 lane highway and got rear ended by a loaded semi truck that chose to hit me instead of taking the ditch. I saw him coming and laid down in the seat just before impact. The Mercury was shortened by about 3 feet, but I was unhurt.
Got a 85 Ford Mustang GT after that. I think those had maybe 210 horsepower back then with the 302 engine. I couldn't afford to keep rear tires on her. Very fortunate that I didn't get killed in it. Almost all of my speeding tickets were in that car. Probably a dozen or so.
He bought my brother a nice looking LTD II Sport Version for his first car. Very sharp in black with the red and yellow stripes.

Since I quit high school in grade 10, I don't have a "high school ride". But this is my winter beater in those years. Bought it from an old guy who could not drive anymore dirt cheap. 69 Lincoln with a 460 ..... like floating on air and plenty of room for non-driving activity
I bought the 66 Mustang for $2000.00. It had a 351C H.O. from a wrecked '71 Boss Mustang installed, 11.5 compression, rear leafs re-arched to raise it one inch, and front shock towers were modified to lower the front one inch. Rubber in all 4 gears and I was clocked at 147 MPH. The fake vents in the headlight shroud were cut open and the fenders were lightly flared. It's in the garage pic above (second from the left) after I finished it.I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

Trivia for car guys
The light blue 67 Mustang on the left belonged to my neighbour. Shelbys were sold only at one dealership in Toronto, so Mainway Ford decided to build the Mustang Stallion. This specific one is in the Legendary Motorcars episode where Klutt's buddy John Westcott (who bought it from my neighbour) had Legendary restore it.
It had the 410 police interceptor engine, which was for big body Fords, and in this pony car ..... quick like a bunny
There was a neat vinyl treatment on the sides of the roofline, looked really cool, Cougar tailights, and all the badges for "Stallion"I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

Was the Polara a Max Wedge?
There is a 63 Polara Max Wedge at RK Motors in North Carolina that I really want to buy, but the exchange rate is ridiculous. I can't pay six figures even if it is in Canadian dollars. The Max Wedge is going to be my next hot rodI don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

A white 1988 Chevy Cavalier Z-24 with a 5 speed manual transmission. I put a booming sound system in it with Clarion head unit, MB Quarter speakers, Precision Power amps and two Kicker Solobaric subs in the trunk.
I won't win the coolest car award, but it got me everything I needed and more. It was basically a rolling hotel room. When a girl asked me for a ride home from work/school/track what they really meant was "can you go balls deep in me right now?" LOL
