    Realistic goals for 1 year

Say if i were to start deadlifting and squatting at 135 what would realistic strength be by end of the year? Is it possible to gain 405 squat and 500lb deadlift within a year for a natty? Average genetics plus bulk. I weight 170ish right now.

Realistic goals is more tomorrow then today. As a novice you'll make some quick gains but no one could possibly say by how much right now. I'd set shorter term goals right now. Say 5 pounds more every week to a 3x5 for each lift....look up in the sticky for a post called read me first. Pick a program and stick to it for the next year. Come back and post your progress after that time.

Go for the old 1234, 1 plate overhead press, 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat, and a 4 plate deadlift. You can for sure do better, I and many others have, but these are good 1 year goals.

i did pick a program and i'm sticking with it. i was just curious on how much 1 year gains would be. i understand that everyone is different and gains won't be the same but i was just generalizing. i like to set both long and short term goals. you're right about 'more tomorrow then today" but i also like to set longer term goals like "gain/cut this much muscle/fat by xx month" or "lift this much weight by xx month". i dunno just how my mind works. lifting to me is like achievements or trophies in gaming. there is the easy ones to get and harder ones aka shorter goals that are easily accomplished and long term goals that take time and patience but still achievable.

I would not set your goals at a 500 deadlift if you're starting where you are. the 1234 club would be a safe bet and training isn't static in a vacuum--as you start you will quickly see where your immediate potential lies.
