Unhappy The lightweight division is going to be on hold *again* until the end of the year

Champ: Khabib, gonna be out all summer for ramadan.

    1. Conor, inactive. He won't fight this year guaranteed

    2. Ferguson, injured + Dana said he's never booking Tony vs Khabib again

    3. Eddie Alvarez, doesn't deserve a title shot

    4. Barboza, already lost to Khabib

    5. Porier, LOL. Needs to fight Eddie again and beat him then maybe we can make the case a title fight.

    6. Gaethje, sloppy boxer who has a padded record from fighting cans. He's now lost twice in a row, should fight Nate Diaz

So basically, Khabib has another win under his belt but we've somehow ended up in a predicament where the most stacked division in the UFC is full of guys who don't deserve a title shot, and none of this will be settled until September at the earliest.
    Starting stats: 5"11, 130lbs @ age 16.

    Current stats: 6"2, 210lbs.

The 8th and final rule: If this is your first night at Gym Club....... you have to squat.

Because they've now booked the fight five times and it's fallen through every time.

Remember though, that just because Dana says something, that doesn't always make it true, especially when he says it in the heat of things.

They'll book it again if that's the right fight to book.

OP, Poirier vs Avarez for a title eliminator is a good fight though. There's a history there, plus they're both coming off wins over a common opponent. That would actually be the perfect solution if Tony and Khabib can't get lined up before the end of the year (assuming Alvarez and Poirier would accept it, and I have my doubts Poirier would accept it based on his words following Saturday's fight).

Guaranteed if Conor doesn't come back this year then Dana will book it again!

Honestly I think Poirier/Alverez is the fight to make, Barboza is booked to fight Lee and there's really nobody else in the top ten that does much for either.

Looking at the lightweights I really wish they would fix the rankings system

Or just abolish the current system, and personally, I don't care whether or not they re-introduce a new official system after that.

A lot of people forget (and a lot of new fans just haven't been around long enough to realize) that the rankings have only been around for a few years now.

Things were better (certainly matchmaking was better and easier) before the rankings system.

ramadan ends in the middle of june so I think we are looking at September at the earliest for a Khabib fight. 5 months honestly isn't that bad, compared to almost 2 years of holding the title, lmfao. The featherweight belt will likely be in limbo longer than that.

I think they need to run back Eddie vs Dustin again, both guys need another quality win IMO to challenge for the belt.

Agreed! I would be fine with either no ranking system or a reworked system that didn’t stagnate. Luke Thomas has been talking about the current system a lot lately and brings up some really good points about it.

Id like to see Kevin Lee get past his next fight and see how he will do against Khabib if they wont re book ferguson.

I really dont want to see Porier or Alverez vs Khabib. they would get steamrolled in my opinion.

Just to expand a bit, Dana originally said hell never book it again. Then literally within a day or two at the UFC 223 press conference he was asked again if he'd book it again and he kinda just smirked and said hell figure it out if that time comes. My apologies for not having the exact quote but you can read between the lines that he would book it if necessary.

lol Khabib is never going to defend his fake belt anyways.

Ramadum, injuries, tiramisu, demands to fight only in Russia card, etc. is the future of the lightweight fake belt.

Why do u hate Khabib so much?

Anyway, the best way to solve a ****ed up division IMO is with a tournament. Not all in one night, those days are gone, but with some kind of tournament format you come out with a clear champion, and it's something fresh and interesting for the fans.

I'm not sure the LW division needs that though.

Either way its getting held onto. The only way it was going to be a fighting belt is if Ferg had it and didnt trip over a rug and wreck his knee... at this point Im rooting for Kevin Lee to get it I guess.. but guys only walk the talk until they get the belts, then they all turn out the same. All demands and no defense. Holloway might be the only guy whos nutted up and signed the line to fight right after winning a belt lately, and he actually wanted to fight for LW too...I guarantee he would have defended both more often than anyone else will even defend one.

Anyway, the best way to solve a ****ed up division IMO is with a tournament. Not all in one night, those days are gone, but with some kind of tournament format you come out with a clear champion, and it's something fresh and interesting for the fans.

I'm not sure the LW division needs that though.

the division is fine for now bros

the belt was literally just won, Khabib will probably fight in September or October. As long as he defends the belt 2x a year, if he doesn't then you guys can complain.

Idk but I really hope Gaethje starts fighting smarter.. he's incredibly entertaining and seems like a very nice guy, but he's looking at a very short career if he sticks to his current style of fighting.

I think it'll be 2 more lightweight fights in the top 5.

Between Lee and Barboza, whoever wins that could get a shot at tony again or dustin
Loser of that may likely go with eddie or justin

I added conor out from the fact he may be behind bars, but we know he aint going to jail, nor be punished by UFC top dogs

All demands and no defense. Holloway might be the only guy whos nutted up and signed the line to fight right after winning a belt lately, and he actually wanted to fight for LW too...I guarantee he would have defended both more often than anyone else will even defend one.
The decision was between letting Khabib fight for the belt or kicking the can down the road though. I think they made the right decision.

Can't blame champs for being particular about their fights, that flows from the way in which the UFC incentivizes its athletes.

He said that before the shenanigans at UFC 223, but no one knows what's happening now.

I do actually. I enjoy watching good matchups and I find it funny when people say "This guy is ruining MMA" or "The division is being held up".

There are top guys fighting each other in every division almost every month. Enjoy the fights and stop worrying about a strap. Tony Ferguson is on a 10 fight win streak, he's not the champion. But I have enjoyed watching that feat as much as anything that can happen in MMA.
