R. Lee Ermey better known as Gunny from Full Metal Jacket has died at 74 of complications from pneumonia. Sucks as he always seemed like a down to earth real person and didn't sucked into the $hit Hollywood tends to throw at everyone.

I remember going to see Full Metal Jacket in the Summer of '87. I had no idea what the movie was about, I just wanted to go see a movie. I laughed so hard during the first 20 mins my abs were sore the next day.
When my sons were 12 and 13 i let them finally see the movie. They were so shocked... and finally understood where my parenting style came from.
"I'm asking the questions, may I be in charge now"
"Well I guess if God wanted your room cleaned he would have miracle it by now huh?"
Ooh Rah, Gunney and Semper FiA man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.

I used to love his show mail call. Great how he'd answer questions with a no BS answer but never make the person feel like their question was stupid. A buddy of mine was a Corporal in the corps and met him and said he was a hell of a nice guy in person. RIP

^^ This, maggot!
He was probably responsible for my decision to never ever join the military.
My favorite is when he makes the guys sing "Happy Birthday dear Jesus" on Christmas day.
Oh and every time I had to listen to my office mate's emotional breakdowns, this came to mind:

R.I.P., Gunny. Much respect for all my Brothers In Arms, especially those who did a tour in Viet Nam. He was a career soldier, and a damn good one.

No brain, no gain.
"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

RIP, much respect.
A coworker of mine met him at a trade show, said he was unbelievably nice and accommodating. Signed stuff for his kids and I think even did some pen pal stuff back & forth. Heck of a dude.Hebrews 12: 1,2
