You don't flare your elbows on the way up, you tuck them. So I'd agree it is a bad exercise, if you flare your elbows outwards on the concentric. My stupid cousin messed up his shoulders and needed surgery. I kept telling him to tuck his elbows and retract and depress his scapula, and he kept saying "No that is stupid"
