So I take 5 key supplements to help maintain optimal health. One of them is magnesium. Previously, I was taking magnesium citrate in the form of tablets you buy at your local health store. But I read that the magnesium saline laxative stuff you buy at Walmart is the same stuff, magnesium citrate, just in a much higher dosage. One full bottle (10 fl oz) is 17,450 mg of magnesium citrate, which comes to about 2,820 mg of elemental magnesium. I did the math: magnesium citrate is about 16% pure elemental magnesium. If I were to take 1 or even 1 1/2 fl oz of this stuff at night, solely to up my daily intake of magnesium, I would be getting 282-423 mg of elemental magnesium. Has anyone tried this? Thinking about trying it and seeing what it does. At only $1 a bottle, seems like it would save a butt load of money vs. magnesium citrate tablets.

You might shiat yourself.. I don't no how much you pay for mag citrate tabs, but this doesn't seem cost effective.. why not buy a much better version of mag, like taurate? Its more costly, but far superior..
Don't bother taking magnesium if you can't afford a quality form. Don't pop pills to just pop them thinking your doing good.

I normally pay $8 for 100 tablets at Vitamin Shoppe. I'd have to take 8 pills to get the same amount of magnesium as taking 1 fl oz of the laxative stuff. Doing that, the pills would last me 12.5 days. 12.5 days at $8/bottle vs. 10 days at $1/bottle. Seems pretty straight-forward to me, IF this works.
From what I've read citrate is just as good a form as taurate in terms of absorption.

So here's my update: after trying this for a week, and without any other change to my daily routine, I can confirm (for me at least) that this way of taking magnesium does have a better effect on relaxation. My dreams this past week have been more vivid, and I've been able to remember them better the next day. I also seem to wake up more refreshed vs. the tablet form. I never had any issue of constipation/diarrhea, in fact just the opposite. Before taking this I would normally have a BM once a day. After taking this, it seems to be more like one every 1.5-2 days. At first I thought this might be problematic, but I haven't had any adverse effects since taking this and have felt great this whole week. So for anyone who takes magnesium supplements, I would definitely give this a try. Remember to only take 1-1.5 fl oz before bed, and no more.
