    Personal preference.
    If you are a low-stim user, then black coffee may help.
    But for me, ~3 cups of black coffee, and I easily get the runs :/

    PWO's have added ingredients to increase blood flow, mental focus and the energy is so much more intense

    Coffee is a very comfortable short lived source of energy, it's great for a pick me up, but not great as a pre-training drink IMO

    Not true. It depends what you want and, possibly, stim tolerances.

    OP, the answer is that it depends on what you want. If you just want low stim energy then coffee is great. If you want more stims, pump ingredients, focus ingredients or some combo of the three, then you'll need/want a pre.

    I personally like some more ingredients for extra focus and pumps along with the energy that caffeine brings so a PWO for my personal desires is what I go with.

    Back, in college I only used a good carb meal pre-workout with caffeine tabs and still had great workouts. But as of now, I like using a Pre.

    nothing wrong with straight caffeine pills as well. if you aren't into all the extra stuff, that works fine. just don't expect long lasting effects. PWO powders all the way tho...

    pre workout easier/faster to mix up and I prefer to have the added focus and exotic stimulants tho I do like a great cup of coffee not always in the mood to drink a cup of coffee or have the time to make a good cup of coffee.

    Also I have a little more control on the pre workout of the amount of stimulants overall where as coffee can vary widely

    Sometimes I do just take a couple caffeine caps + Ephedrine and wash it down with a diet pepsi.. I do pour it into a coke glass tho.. thuglife.jpg

    Caffeine as anhydrous hits harder and faster than naturally-sourced caffeine and is more ergogenic, this we know. If you are a hyper-responder to caffeine in general, a cup or coffee or two will get you going but it doesn't have the many extras that PWO products offer.
