Trump and Little Fat Rocketman to meet

Trump to meet with Kim Jong Un by May, South Korean official announces

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un extended an invitation to meet with President Trump -- and the president agreed that the two would meet by May, South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong announced at the White House on Thursday night.

Chung announced that Trump would meet with Kim by May to "continue the goal of denuclearization." The White House did not give an immediate response.

Seems like Kim Jong-Un sent the invitation so he could show the rest of the world that his investment in nuclear and missile capabilities has made the United States to treat him as an equal. I mean, how long have they been wanting to meet with a U.S. President? Couple decades?

But what does President Trump get out of this? A photo op and a chance for his base to croon about how he has brought Kim to the negotiation table. The real question is going to be if there's anything that results out of this. If there is no legitimate progress on denuclearization or unification from this meeting, President Trump can say (whether it's in good faith or not) that diplomatic routes have been tried and failed. What he does with that is anyone's guess.

Absolutely none taken. I think we both know NK is something we’ll probably never agree on, and that’s cool. It’s all just opinion.

True. Bill Clinton did meet up the the Kim Jong Un's father, and they took photos. But, the only one that used it for a photo op and for propaganda was Kim Jong-il. Bill only went there to retrieve a prisoner and he clearly hated being there, including the photo.

Yes, we can disagree, but to say Trump wants to meet with Kim Jong Un for a photo op is beyond being bias. So far, Trump in one year has gotten further than Obama did in 8 years of appeasement.

Although, I am not optimistic at all that anyone can de-nuke NK. But, there has to be effort and everyone knows it may not work.

The real question here is, if Trump does manage to denuclearise the peninsula, will he get a peace prize?

US military threats lose a lot of credibility when South Korea is clearly against war on peninsula. So much so that SK President is personally spear heading a peace offensive, combined with a inter-Korean summit with Kim. NK-SK detente is increasingly exposing the limits of US influence, as SK is demonstrating it can achieve an independent foreign policy course that will not drag the peninsula into nuclear war. US would risk breaking the US-SK alliance if it were to attack against SK's wishes.

Edit: never mind misunderstood your point.

I think NK thought EVERYTHING would change when they got ICBM technology. They got it and low and behold... nothing changed...just incrementally more sanctions. It's like when you wanted that favorite toy as a kid and when you finally got it...the world isn't any greater.

First rule of POTUS, if it happens to you it's your fault. So if NK de-nukes while Trump is POTUS he gets the credit. That's just how the rules are.
    You're add hear.

We've played this game before. The regime is running out of money. This is all a sham to ease sanctions so they can continue funneling money into their nuclear program.

I don't see much coming from any of this really...

I don't imagine Trump is going to in any way cater to this guy and Un has a reputation to protect back home..

DT could get some of my respect back by cancelling the day before the meeting to go play golf down in FLA

this guys just as bad as Idi Amin and we're supposed to somehow open up diplomatic channels with the guy ?

on second thought f*ck cancelling ..

trump should just shine him altogether and not show up !

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

First rule of POTUS, if it happens to you it's your fault. So if NK de-nukes while Trump is POTUS he gets the credit. That's just how the rules are
Unless you’re Obama. Then everything is Bush’s fault.

However, I suspect this meeting is just the NORKs trying to get sanctions eased or lifted... the same way they’ve been p,aging the game for 50 years.

Supposedly they needed fuel for the ship that was bringing their athletes to the Olympics.

Whether they needed it or not they got it, which in their book is another case of the West giving in to the Dear Leaders demands.

Your partisan bs aside, we are probably like minded on this issue.

Why settle for a field goal when when can run it in for the TD?

They are not to be trusted and any easement of sanctions with less than confirmed denuclearization is a field goal.

We should consider going for the two point conversion and push for the removal of rocket man.

...but that's just my liberal global leftist MSNBC watchin' anti-Trumpkin opinion.
    You're add hear.

Now the question falls to our generation: How will we build upon the sacrifice of D-Day's heroes? - It doesn't matter who said it.

Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me." - Mark 9:36-37

President Trump has definitely not done more, unless you mean more in terms of threats. The North Koreans have been hoping for a summit with an American President for decades, as it demonstrates that they’re a regional power.

Beyond that, not a single thing has changed. America has dropped the demand for denuclearization, and no moratorium on tests has been promised.
    Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.
