Started new gym last week, Everything is completely different with the bars! All the bars there are thick and don’t bend at all. The squat rack is different made a PR there now actually since it’s way better rack. 408lbs-185kg. But the deadlift is way worse. Since i can’t get tight enough before lifting off ground since the bars don’t have any slack.
Also since they are so thick i can’t lock my fingers to hold it for reps. We are talking about in my old gym i could deadlift 440lbs-200kg couple reps. This gym i can barely pull it twice since i struggle so much off the ground which never was a problem normally for me.
I haven’t tried maxing out the bench since it’s also different hooks on it.

Yeah There's one gym near me that did the same. All bars thicker than standard. They also got a deadlift platform and within a week they had put squares of carpet down on the rubber to cushion the weight and put up a sign saying "don't drop the weights", over the platform. I never went back.

Do you hook grip? If not the thicker bar will be beneficial in the long run for your alternating grip by making it stronger. When I used an over under grip I loved my 32mm Jesup bar. When I went to a meet pulling on a 27mm or 29mm bar it was like child's play. Make your training harder to get you stronger.

use a mixed grip for DL's, you shouldn't have any issue. and Welcome to Gerneric bar town! lol...this is pretty much all I've lifted with (until just recently, my buddy purchased a rogue dl bar) When I went to my first meet, using a DL bar was a bit of shock. I had never used a thin bar with whip. At that time my gym dl pr was 545 so on my 3rd attempt I went for a all time PR of 551 and ripped it off the ground with ease, I was a bit shocked and disappointed bc it was so easy. Anyways, my point is, don't worry about strength loss with a stiff bar, it'll still be there. You'll essentially be doing deficit deads when using a stiff bar. If you decide to compete, I would recommend finding a gym to visit with a DL bar so you can get used to it again and get a real assessment of your DL numbers.
