    Bulking/Cutting- The 1000 cal and 500 cal question

    So, this is the second bulk I'm doing. First time through, I had a 500 calorie surplus every day. I struggled to gain anything. This time through I'm doing 1000 cal surplus on work out days and 500 calorie surplus on non work out days and I''m gaining about a pound a week and some significant muscle gains.

    This seems to be working for my body type. I hear a lot of people saying eat consistent everyday because you build muscle on your off days.

    Now, last time I did a cut, I did a 500 calorie deficit everyday and I lost waaaay too much muscle. I was thinking this time around to do a 500 calorie defecate on my rest days and eat at my maintenance level on work out days (to help offset the extra calories burned).

    I'm 6'2", and currently 171 pounds, around 20% body fat right now. My bulk is going to end in 6 weeks then I will switch to a cut. What is everyone's thoughts based on what my experience has been so far?

If you're bulking in such a way that you have to cut often, you're bulking too aggressively. Losing a lb per week at your stats is fine. If you were losing muscle, you weren't resistance training efficiently.

What is everyone's thoughts based on what my experience has been so far? You shouldn't plan your bulks and cuts. Bulk until you can't see your abs. Cut until you can. Rinse and repeat.

    How are you measuring muscle gain and loss? 1lb per week even for a noob is going to be close to 50% fat gain.
