I just started doing inverted sit ups but since it puts a lot of pressure on abd can it cause hernia? And the gravity boots are not available in my area so I do them on monkey bars but it put strain on my legs, is there a way to do them without gravity boots and painlessly?

Do abs pulldown. Your abs will get swole in no time. This is seriously the best and most underrated abs exercise ever. Go heavy and do moderate amount of reps just like when you train any other muscles.
Everyone is different, but the high reps body weight abs exercises almost do nothing to my abs. If they work for you, that's fine, but I guarantee you will see better results with weighted abs exercises that allow you to progressively overload easily.
