Hey there gang, made a profile here several years ago and haven't really used it due to becoming a regular on a couple other boards.
However, there aren't many natty lifters on those boards so I thought it might be worth my time to log in here and ask this question.
I am currently prepping for my first powerlifting meet, I will be competing in the USAPL federation and from my research they seem to be pretty tough on banned substances so on the offchance I am tested I am discontinuing my current preworkout (Total war, highly reccomend) until after the meet.
With that being said, I am having a difficult time deciding on something that will be safe to take leading up to and during the event, the wada website is a cluster duck of information and the list of banned substances is extensive and exhausting to compare each ingredient on the list to ingredient's in a preworkout.
Anywhosers, if anyone here who has any experience with the wada guidelines and knows of a "legal" preworkout I would appreciate a push in the right direction, thanks.

IMO Leave the over stimulation for the platform.
Basic caffeine is your safest option as well. Many have been tested positive due to sups of all kinds and most offending sups are pre-workouts. Taking pure forms of anything is a safe bet. Like creatine.
For caffeine I'll either mix some Folgers instant in with some whey protein and creatine. Or drink that through my workout.
Or most often I use guarana tablets as it upsets my stomach less and less jittery feeling.
These are what I like. 1 tablet is like 200mg caffeine.

Also this is a good site. Get supplements that have tried at least to.be certified clean. I've been using musclepharm protein powders recently.

The problem is that banned substances can be listed under many names, and companies have also been caught not listing substances in their pre-workout
If you are really paranoid stick with companies that have third party testing for banned substances (SSP, I think Dymatize does it too). If you aren't that paranoid, stick to the bigger companies who make 'meh' pre-workouts (Cellucor's C4 for example).771/645/622 Single Ply

I will check that website out, thank you.
I might try the caffeine pills as it wouldn't be a huge monetary loss if it didn't work out. I just know a cup of coffee doesn't give me the oomph I need for 3 hours in the gym after a long day at work and less than optimal sleep.Projected maxes Bench:260 squat:400 Deadlift:520

Yeah I was looking at c4 but I have used it be free and I know it isn't anything to write home about, especially compared to what I have been using.
I probably am being overly paranoid. I probably won't be tested anyways, even though it is a rookie meet I only stand to hit a 1200lb total in the 105kg class at best depending on how my peaking phase goes, but probably more likely 1150ish so I doubt I will be in the top tier and I definitely won't be breaking any records, but still better safe than sorry. Natty for the time being and don't want to catch a ban over a technicality and not be able to compete in usapl.Projected maxes Bench:260 squat:400 Deadlift:520

Long lasting is what I need for sure. It's not unusal for me to be in the gym for 2.5-3 hours from starting stretches to the end of my workout . That's kind of why I like a preworkout because I can drink half of it right as I am finishing rolling out/stretching and then sip the rest throughout.

I take anywhere from a hour to 2 all depending on how much volume I'm doing that day and how much I'm dragging. I typically train in the middle of the night to fit in around life.
I'll take a guarana tablet about 45 minutes before I start warming up. Then sip on a protein shake through out. 2 scoops protein, creatine, 3 tbsp dextrose, and 1 tsp folgers classic instant (around 57mg caffeine) or if it's really late or dragging I'll add 1 tbsp Folgers classic instant (just over 150mg caffeine). My Training Journal: http://tinyurl.com/jasons-journal

I just had my first USAPL meet last month.
Due to life, I have to train at 3am, so I looked into preworkouts, but found too many suggestions that unlisted ingredients end up in the container, which can result in banning. Considering the length of the ban, I'm not interested in rolling those dice.
This is what I've been doing for the last few weeks, and I'm happy with the results.
I set my alarm for 2am, take a 200mg caffeine pill and some juice, mixed with soaked oatmeal and whey protein, and go back to sleep. Tastes like ass, but when my second alarm goes off at 3am, I'm pretty much ready to start my workout.
I know I'm just a newb, so take this with a grain of salt if you wish.
But, 3hrs in the gym would destroy me. My suggestion would be to condense the workouts, and use the extra time in your life to get another 1-2 hrs of sleep a night. May not be possible for you and your situation though?
My goal has always been 45 minutes, but it often turns into an hour to 1:15...
I will be trying Guarana after reading this thread though!
Thanks!Jason
