Start > Settings > Update & Security > Change Active Hours
If you have Pro:
Win + R > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Configure Automatic Updates > Edit to your preference
Let's not pretend this wasn't an issue on Windows 7 or 8.1. I've been in many a lecture when the professor click a key as the white and yellow box for "Update now" or "Postpone" came up and rebooted his computer.

Why is it trash if you just don't know how to change the settings on auto-update?
You have some options to choose like:
- auto download and auto install
- auto download and notify on install
- notify on download and notify on install
Somewhere along those lines bro.Steam - jinda28
Origin - jinda628
XBLive - jinda628

My computer never updates unless I tell it to, and whenever I feel like an update I just type this in the terminal
sudo pacman -Syu
This updates everything on my computer and when the update is complete I'm not even forced to reboot my machine, I can just continue to use my computer like nothing just happened.Former no-avi anonymous

No one is defending anything. You're upset because you failed to manage your OS properly.
In Windows, you work within a set of rules, Active Hours, or hack it, Regedit, or, get something you control. Use Arch like Archheretic or FreeBSD if you don't wanna deal with the Linux kernel issues.Moved Squat, Bench, and Deadlift to Yoke, Log, and Stones.

I remember a long time ago Microsoft tried telling everybody that the newer, better OS' would require fewer reboots after updating. It's only slightly true but cotdamn these new feature updates twice a year for Win10 are insane. I've spent a good bit of time refreshing machines throughout my company to much better standards such as SSD and quad core i5 (for desktops, i7 for laptops) but it still takes a while to complete the updates. Some take 30-40 minutes, some have taken almost 1 1/2 hours because of how much **** the user had on their laptop.
Blows my mind that MS can't figure out how to install most updates without reboots that take forever. It's okay to be white

No disagreement there. Took all the annoying visual dumbness of Vista and phuked up 7.

Don't forget...
> Disable Windows Update Service
> Computer still turns on randomly during sleep
>Disable Update Orchestrator under Group Policy Editor
> "Oh, you're on 1709? You can't do that anymore because "f**k your choices!"
> Try again as a "Trusted Installer"
> Repeat until Windows 10 is more locked down than a chastity belt made of mithril
Others are correct in that the Windows update issue has been extant for a few iterations now, I think what makes the current state of affairs so egregious is not only how forced restarts in the middle of work are not only still unresolved, but how Microsoft has made addressing update qualms even more obtuse on the user end.
If a user is versed enough to block the update tasks before on the level of using the bloody Group Policy Editor, how is making that process even harder going to protect the "average" user who probably does not even know how to edit the registry? What kind of "malicious" application will try and, y'know, improve usability by stopping Windows from randomly waking your PC like a dumbass? Especially because having disabled literally everything else related to updates, it can't update; it just wakes your PC because "f**k you."
While I can accept creating safe guards for the lowest common denominator, there is a problem when Microsoft goes out of its way to treat all users as such and restrict everyone. That is crossing the line of a "personal computer" by turning it into a walled potato garden. Microsoft had one key job with Windows: don't be Apple, and they're really screwing that up.
Abandoning the old format of selective updates for the new "streamlined" cumulative process was one of the defining measures setting Windows towards a service rather than a proper OS, while also being hilariously counter-intuitive; how is it that one of the most common reasons for widely varying application performance is different hardware, and yet MS decided "screw it, just give everyone everything,"? Fast forward to only a few weeks ago when that worked out wonderfully for AMD computers being sent into BSOD purgatory due to Windows 10's hyper-aggressive, one-fits-all update behavior.
Amongst all of the useless, half-cocked features MS keeps adding to Windows 10, one of the few that would actually be celebrated is updating without reboots in the vein of Linux. That won't come to Windows 10, not without a whole rework on the kernel and archicture and all that. Microsoft might have said that Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, but eventually they'll have to bite the bullet just to remain competitive in the future (brb, Update still at 11% in 2049). If Windows 10's clusterf**k of a user interface that still contains layers of legacy designs is any indication, they can only layer code upon the battered corpses of the 1s and 0s that came before it for so long - presumably when Windows 11 comes out as an actual annual service.
On the general level, I like how Windows 10 is faster, and it's perfectly usable so long as I can use third party applications to customize it to how I like to work (y'know, like a... "personal" computer). I can also understand Microsoft's reasoning for certain choices on their end, but that doesn't excuse them for when they're completely retarded.
Anyway, if it's any consolation, Universal Windows Platform (UWP) has been cracked, so suck it, Microsoft.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

Yeah, I was on Arch for a while. pacman -Syu fubar'd my system more than once, and reinstalling is so manual and tedious that I'd rather not. I have a couple of Arch boxes on Linode, but that's it. The automated Arch installers, or alternatives like Manjaro and Antergos don't do it for me. Antergos was a champ for a while, maybe my needs changed.
VFIO is badass. I'm passing through an RX580 to Win10 in KVM at the moment. Maybe 5% latency difference than on bare metal, no BSOD and no freezing. Octothorpe metalMoved Squat, Bench, and Deadlift to Yoke, Log, and Stones.
