There's not going to be a consensus on this but I'd say at intermediate levels once every three weeks seems to be pretty damn awesome assuming you still go light (speed) one week then do volume the next. So you're still deadlifting every week but only heavy (over 85% 1rm) once every three weeks.

Make sure to hit your weak links every week, though.

most people wouldn't recommend deadlifting heavy more than once per week based on that it is very taxing on the body and that if you are squatting 2-3x a week it should have carryover to your deadlift.

Follow a deadlift program...Ed Coan has a great one if you can handle it.

Initially, a trainee can perform heavy dead lifts multiple times a week. Once you are dead lifting a substantial heavy weight, for you individually, you will be able to perform less workouts.

I have known some power lifters that only dead lift once every two weeks. By that point they are lifting seriously heavy weight.

It depends on the level of the trainee mostly.

I can perform heavy Romanian dead lifts every week - not a true dead lift I accept. But they still tax the body. Eddie Hall mentioned that he took weeks to recover from his 500 KG dead lift. I admit it took me a week or so to believe what I saw. My maximum dead lift at my peak was less than half that weight :-).

Isn't deadlifting only taxing on your low back "more so" if your form is crap? I mean in deadlift, I mostly feel it in my glutes and hamstrings, and traps, low back very little, and for that reason I deadlift 2x a week, the first and last day of the training week, but I also squat 3x a week, and no issues. However, like others have said, it is entirely individual.

I also never squat above 7 reps.

This also depends on your current strength level. What's your max DL?

    Once per week.
    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon
