Mike Mentzer "Heavy Duty" Style workouts

I was talking to John Heart the other day on facebook, 2013 Mr. America Natural... He basically has been using heavy duty style training his entire career.

Going to give it a shot and post results, anybody familiar with this type of training and use it exclusively? Thanks.

Care to explain what this "heavy duty" training is? I tried googling and got contradicting search results.

Yeah my b bro for the extremely late response lol. It was "created" by Mike Mentzer & Arthur Jones, basically it's 1 set to complete positive & negative failure even including static holds to intensify the set. 2 sets at most...

There was a study done quoted by Jerry Branium, whether you do high reps/ lower weight vs heavy weight/ low reps both showed the same increase in hypertrophy when done to complete failure but strength gains weren't there for the high volume group.

Either way John Heart Mr. America Natural has used it his whole career and he's jacked yo, I've used it on and off and get good gains

They were. From what I read, that type of lifting works well for contractile tissue, gaining strength, but not so much for sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, gaining size.

who the **** is Ric Drasin lmao

Look, if one set was all it took, everybody would be big and massive. And if you look at an actual Mentzer workout, there were always some "warm up sets" leading up the final set.

There's usually one warm up set involved in heavy duty, sort of like a powerlifter routine an easy set of 10 then your at your working weight.

Most people do not train to positive/ negative/ & static failure whether they are doing high volume or low volume training...

Ric Drasin designed the Golds Gym logo & is a golden era BB...

Heavy Duty works well for natural bodybuilding

Just wanted to say that I have used HD for years as well. I made the biggest jumps in size and strength by using Mentzer’s HD2 and various modifications of the HD1 routines. You have to figure out the frequency and to not get overly obsessive about increase the weight for the sake of progress. If anything, i’ve Found that slowing the movement and focusing on the contraction will limit the amount you lift for a while, but you will get super strong once you adapt to that style of controlled repetition.

It really doesn't. John Heart did volume to build up plus he did roids while competing. Now he's a skinny old guy selling hit to those gullible enough to buy it. Same old. Same old.
