Police in Perris, California, have revealed more of the abuse endured by David and Louise Turpin's children

- On Thursday, they described how the 13 siblings got just one, rationed meal a day and were seldom bathed

-The children - who were rescued on Sunday thanks to their 17-year-old sister who escaped - are in hospital

-Authorities fear they could go into shock at any time because they are all so malnourished, said police

-Child Protection Services where the family live said they never received one call despite neighbors categorizing them as 'odd'

-Relatives of Louise Turpin, who she hadn't seen for years, say they believed the happy family facade she created on ********

-David, 57, and Louise, 49, are due to be arraigned on child abuse charges in California on Thursday

Brenda Taylor, Louise Turpin's aunt, told CNN on Thursday how she believed the facade the couple portrayed on social media where they posted happy photographs of the family on vacations to Disney Land and at the couple's vow renewal ceremony.

'With the pictures they put on ********, you thought they were one big happy family,' she said.

Taylor said her niece, who is now 49, married David when she was just 16.

When David's parents last visited them in California from his native West Virginia, all seemed well.

'They were just like any ordinary family. And they had such good relationships. I'm not just saying this stuff. These kids, we were amazed. They were 'sweetie' this and 'sweetie' that to each other,' Betty Turpin, 81, said.

Betty described her son and his wife as 'model Christians'.

'"It's hard to believe all of this. Over the years, the Lord knows what happened,' she added.

David Turpin, 57, and his wife Louise Turpin, 49, allegedly ate apple and pumpkin pie and other food in front of the children but denied them proper nutrition and medical care, stunting their growth and cognitive development in one of the US’s most shocking cases of child abuse.

All of the children were homeschooled, including the ones who are now adults. Their mental capacity is much younger than their age, according to authorities.

When they were found by authorities, the children were all lying in feces. The adults among them are 'so small' police say they look like children.

Kids have permanent brain damage from lack of sustenance. Parent put food within site, but not within reach of their own suffering children. Frankly, I’d say that cruel and unusual punishment is exactly what these “parents” deserve, but I don’t know if there’s any earthly retribution available that could remotely right this wrong.
