Reminds me of an argument I had in college waaaay back. The debate was whether women were as physically capable as men in the military. This string bean of a girl , who could barely due a pull up adamently argued that women were more than capable and that she had several friends that could due just as well as any man. While her friends may keep up with some men, the average women would not due to biology. Even the way women perceive reality and communicate differs from men, they are emotionally oriented not fact and logic oriented. This alone would lead to disaster in a crisis situation. I understand that the more masculine amongst them may be able to overcome this weakness, but they would be far and few between at least from my experience of interacting with some bright females in college, medical school, and other walks of life.

Think about the phrase: "Women and children first". Men are expected to DIE providing for and protecting the tribe. Men do all the fighting and all the hard, dangerous dirty jobs. Men are disposable. Loyalty, honor, respect, ingenuity, innovation- these are masculine traits. The traits of the great men who sacrificed to build civilization. Women's job was to give birth to these great men for these men to become disposable assets to grow, defend, and feed civilization.
When these great men went to battle, women knew their men may never return or that their men may lose the battle. Either of these outcomes result in the submission of the women to "new" men, the conquerors. Either willingly or by force. Women were one of the spoils of war: gold, land, & women. Women would switch sides in wars when their 'side' (tribe) was losing. It does not bode well for a female to be loyal. Like said earlier, loyalty is a masculine trait forged through war bonding. Hence the phrase "these hoes ain't loyal"

I mean on average...There are smart women, but the average woman is not capable of engineering. (Neither is the average man, but MORE men are capable of engineering than women.) Basically, there is a spread of intelligence. There are a lot of really dumb men, but a lot of really smart men too. Women have less spread, and are centered further away. Like I said, there are a lot of smart women out there, but there are a lot fewer smart women than smart men. Definitely not enough to sustain society if the men disappeared.

I doubt very much that it is gender roles. I teach math and physics to kids, and I have seen it firsthand. A lot of women are very good at math -- even at high levels of math in college going into abstract algebra and topology. However, for some reason, they are, on average, terrible at physics, applied math, and engineering (basically anything that has a huge spatio-geometric component to it). I don't know why, but I suspect it actually has to do with biological differences in the brain. On the other hand, women seem to excel at writing and communication, but are also decent at computer science, especially coding (perhaps because this may be more related to verbal ability...?).
