Most durable tape for duffalo bar to save j cups?

Is there any type of tape I can find to hold up beyond one workout?

The duffalo bar killed my pendlay j cups, I was able to find someone to cut me some bread plastic and find a extra set of j cups but don't want to keep replacing so I started taping the outer knurling of the duffalo that I don't need which lies on the j cups. It's saving the knurling and is actually keeping the bar in place better during setup.

The tape gets ripped after every session. Anything more durable that will last a bit longer or is this something I'll just have to fool with every workout?

Maybe just place microfiber towels in the j cups while using the bar? I love the bar but wish they made some universally compatible j cups with the curve. My j cups can't be places ajar like some can

Definitely not the paper tape. I’m trying to find the type I used and it worked well under heavy use.

Great idea. Especially if your bar has snap rings... But, it may prove difficult to keep them in place while unracking/racking the bar. Unless you added some collars to keep them in place.

Conversely, retention/roll pins might be a PITA because they may require a little more work to drive out. I’ll give them a couple love taps with a punch and hammer and see if they pop out.

Definitely not the only one, I've posted a bunch of stuff about this in the past.

OP: first of all, DO NOT just wrap tape around the bar.

It'll get into the knurl and soil it. It'll be hard to remove later. Use something like a piece of paper wrapped several times over or an index card around the bar and then tape around THAT.

I would recommend using black Gorilla Tape. I used electrical tape in the past and it lasts for a few months then starts tearing up.

Last but not least, make sure you wrap the tape in a direction such that when you spin the bar in the J-hooks the tape doesn't want to unwind.

I'd post up the pics I posted previously, but photobucket pics no longer work.

    Hope this helps

The huge flaw with this bar...doesn't fit into any standard rack! It's why my Buffalo Bar gets more work as of late. Will probably use it more again as soon as I have someone build me a new set of offset Jcups.

If you could find someone who can build custom j-cups (wish mech would still), I'd go in that direction. The duffalo bar does not fit well into most j-cups & it's a royal pain in the behind.
Instead of fixing the symptom, correct the issue.

Tape is never really going to do it. Get some Tygon tubing (clear flexible durable plastic) in an inside diameter to match your bar. And get some heat-shrinkable tubing in a size to fit over the Tygon tubing. Slice the Tygon tubing lengthwise and slip over the right spot on the bars. Remove the sleeves and slide the heat-shrinkable tubing over the Tygon and then heat with a hair dryer to shrink it and lock everything in place. If you don't want to remove the sleeves, get some heat-shrinkable tape and do the same. Alternatively, use a couple stainless steel zipties (available at most electrical suppliers including larger Home Depots).

I'm also curious about the solutions here. Using my Duffalo with Rogue Mono Hooks is a huge PITA and makes me hate an otherwise great piece of equipment.

I agree...Electricians use a plastic non stick tape around motor connections and then use electrical tape over that..It keeps the adhesive from screwing up the connections..Might work good for this..Scotch brand makes this tape and it is high quality

I don't have a duffalo, but one of the things we do to protect hydraulic hoses is take a piece of garden hose (or similar tubing), cut it long ways to fit over the bar in that spot. I would guess a 6" long piece would work.

They do make stuff specifically for this type of application. Look up "hydraulic hose guard".
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

I think due to the bend the bar is making contact with the steel sides of the sandwhich j-cups. Would be even worse with Rogue's standard j-cups.

The knurling is like a puppy--chews through EVERYTHING......

The corners of the uhmw on my monolifts are going to need to be replaced soon. I figure I'll reverse the uhmw until the other side gets eaten, and then I have another piece of uhmw that I can cut to size.

Radical solution, why not just file down the knurling that rests on the UHMW? Seriously, it's useless anyway on this barbell so why even bother with it?

I have some heater hose somewhere in the garage. If I can find the right size, Ill cut about a 4" piece and slip it over the bar. Then ill take a pic for you.
I probly wont leave it on as my J cups angle in so the bar sits flush. The knurl still eats them a little, but not enough to really bother me. It would if I had shelled out the dough for a monolift though, so I see where your coming from.

Btw, have only had the bar for a couple weeks now. Love it!! Its a game changer for me.
