Ok, so I am only doing this for recreational purposes. Last year i started swimming and I really enjoyed it I did it for 6 months, and then swapped to the gym which I have been doing for 7 months now. I do not have the money for doing both, so I am curious will I be losing muscle if I just swim, while maintaining with my calories?
You will lose muscle strength from the gym if you just swim. But you’ll gain muscular endurance from swimming. Do whichever makes you happiest. Im a competitive swimmer and swim for my High School. I do both, but it is very taxing and requires a lot of motivation and energy. Maybe try investing in a home gym or finding a gym that also has a pool
Well OP, it's hard to say how much "strength" you'll loose because we have no clue as to how strong you are. Swimming will do great things for your GPP and is great exercise (that's why Wednesday is pool day in a lot of football S&C programs). Look for a gym that offers both (as in YMCA).
I think it depends on what you would like to do. If your main purpose is bodybuilding then you need to continue the gym. They will usually set you up a workout program of exercises to do.
And yes, you may lose muscle if you just swim. But as you say you enjoyed swimming, then you should go for the swim and when you able to maintain both you can start gym again.
