I was just talking about Tom Brady with some fellow Lions fans. We are Michiganders and were there for the Tom Brady/Michigan days. In retrospect, its easy to see Bill Belichick’s move to Tom Brady. But at the time? It was so bold it took iron balls.
From a Lions fan perspective, Matt Stafford just signed the highest contract in NFL history before the 2017 season. We happen to have a 6th round pick from Michigan going into his second season named Jake Rudock. Now...for a real comparison, you’d have to picture an alternate reality where Stafford led the Lions to the Super Bowl. Both Stafford and Bledsoe happen to be 29 years old in this comparison, so age is not an issue. Stafford gets hurt early this past season, and we go with Rudock. And when Stafford is healthy, we STILL stick with Rudock. WTF?
And to make matters worse, Brady threw 2 TDs to 5 INTs in his final 5 regular season games (the timeframe when Bledsoe/Stafford would be getting healthy in this scenario). Not a single 300 yard game. His high was 237 and low was 108 yards. In the postseason that year, he only threw 1 TD pass. That’s 3 games...only 1 TD pass. Nothing about Brady statistically screamed that he would be what he is today.
But Bill saw it, and acted on it. He traded his $100M QB who had already led the team to the Super Bowl, and even delivered another clutch performance in the playoffs on the way to another Super Bowl that Brady won. Its a footnote at this point, but it really was bold.ALL I ASK IS ALL YOU GOT FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES

Blake Bortles and Tom Brady have a combined 5 super bowl rings and 4 super bowl mvps. Should be a battle of the titans next weekend.
ETA: Although if I was a Patriots fans I wouldn't be excited about playing against a Tom Coughlin team with a fast defense and a mediocre quarterback in a championship game."it's likely one of us will have to spend some days alone"

Stefon Diggs after the game winning td reception for the Vikings as time expired. In the locker room the NFL network reporter asked him what is going through your mind after winning the game like that...I got squats to do tomorrow! We can all admire that answer...
Well meaning, elderly man with a poor memory...pause

My dog is out of the fight so I'm not sure who to root for. So many underdogs.
But that ending was something to behold. Between friendly sparring with peeps on O35, replaying Balders gate and watching the game.... it was a good night indeed.
Even tho Brady is God.... I'm rooting for Phillie to take it all. I'd love to see them play the Vikings at this point. But we got another weekend to go.A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.

In Eli’s 4th season he defeated the 18-0 Patriots to win the Super Bowl with a Giants defense that finished 17th in the league in overall defense in the regular season with 53 sacks and 15 interceptions. Tom Brady’s TD/INT ratio in the post season against teams that finished the regular season with 48 sacks or more is 9TD/9INT and a passer rating of 77 in 7 games. Jacksonville’s defense finished 2nd in the league in overall defense with 55 sacks and 21 interceptions.
Seems safe to say the Jags are going to win this weekend. Consider my Bortles raised."it's likely one of us will have to spend some days alone"

Patriots season ticket holder who remembers Brady at Michigan. Honestly? I liked Drew Henson better. I remember laughing when Brady was going to play after Bledsoe got hurt. There was an article by some pro football website whose scouts said, before the 2001 season that the Patriots had the worst talent in the NFL and were coming off a 6-10? 5-11? season.
They ran a vanilla offense that first year. And remember, Bledsoe came off the bench vs. Pittsburgh and threw one of the prettiest TD passes you ever saw to David Patton and another gorgeous pass to Mark Edwards.
I loved Drew, class act, good player. But he relied on his arm. He didn't move well, and he didn't work at it. Brady outworked him. Heck he's outworked everyone
Bill saw it. We've been extremely lucky. The way I see it, the Giants losses have been evened out by the last two victories. I'd like 7, one more than the Steelers, then he can ride off into the sunset.
That being said, focusing on going to the Jax game this weekend. 20 person tailgate, 46 degrees, it's going to be a GREAT time, and hopefully a trip to Minneapolis!

The Eagles kicked some major ass and it wasn't even close. I have to be honest, I had no clue that Nick Foles could regain his form from a few years ago.
I only saw part of game two, and it seemed like Jacksonville had it in the bag. Evidently Brady did a Brady and won towards the end. The Superbowl should be pretty good.
Go Eagles! There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!
