    Weighted vests

    I'm in the market for a weighted vest. Any recommendations or cautions?

    I can recommend MiR for a brand. Not cheap at all but excellent quality. If they made actual ballistic plates for it I would take it over my IFAK any day. My only criticism is that the head space is a little small if you have >17" neck and you'll deal with burst blood vessels on the traps just like any other vest.

    Depends on what you intend to do with it, but if you're just using it for chin ups and dips, then get one that is easy to don and doff i.e secured with velcro.

    If you intend to use it for running (which IMHO is stupid unless you're training for a specific test) then you'll need something that is more secured with a more complicated system.

    Yeah, chins and dips and spicing up my weighted carries, etc. Not for running.

    ''Wow, 10 to 200 LBS! I'll search around to see if they're available in this neck of the woods. I didn't realize that burst blood vessels are common. I see one at Fitness Depot that has 'ultra-soft gel foam padding for extra comfort', but it only goes up to 40LBS.

    I doubt that you'll have any blood vessel issues if you're just using it for bodyweight movements in the gym. I mostly get those on 60+ minute trail hikes.

    Trail hikes with a weighted vest wasn't in the forecast. What is the benefit? I'm always open to new fitness opportunities.
