Should I do cardio on off days if I’m trying to lose some fat and gain some lean muscle?

I agree with him on all of that. If you wanna hit some cardio go for it. Frankly though, at any age, you should concentrate on one goal at a time, cut weight and attempt to RETAIN muscle, or put on muscle, at which point you will also likely put on some mass that isn't lean. What's your physique like and how new are you to training? What does the rest of your program look like?

Cardio is good for you, and if you don't overdo it, it won't negatively affect your recovery. Actually could have some positive impact just due to increased circulation etc., but that's getting a little bro-sciency.
So yes, do cardio if you want to.
However, doing cardio on off days isn't some magic way to be able to lose bodyfat while you gain muscle. That doesn't really work aside from some specific circumstances.Current PRs: (S/B/D) 145kg / 100kg / 180kg // 2018 goal PRs: 160kg / 110kg / 190kg
