    Question Freshman Defensive End

Is 5'10, 165 lbs a good size for a 14 year old Freshman DE? How much weight should I put on if I want to be on the Varsity team

Skill, speed, and determination count a whole lot more than how much you weigh. Learn everything you can about your position, practice the skills, and lift heavy. Defensive linemen need to have psycho-killer instincts, get off the ball quick, the ability to think fast, and knowledge of their position.

As for size, most of the DE's on the teams my son played against in HS were around 220-230lbs, height was anywhere from 5'10" to 6'5". In college, most of his DE teammates and competition are around 6'2" and 240-275lb (high level D3).
