    Unexplainably losing mass

    Hi Guys,

I have been an avid reader on these forums for a few years now, and have learned a ton of info on these boards. I don't ever post because usually I can find some other thread with a similar inquiry as mine, but for once I'm having troubles finding some suggestions.

I am a 21 year old male, 5'10 and about 167 Pounds. I would consider myself an intermediate lifter, as I have only started taking working out seriously since last year. I have just recently committed myself to a Mass building 4 day Upper/Lower Split program.

Now for the reason I'm here... Only a couple of months ago I had noticeably more muscle and was weighing in around 170 Pounds. I consider myself to have a pretty fast metabolism, as I was consuming around 3200 Calories a day, I was also doing a Bro Split Routine at the time. I unfortunately got hit with Strep Throat, ended up taking Amoxicillan antibiotics and was outta commission for about 2 weeks, however I continuously ate over 3000 calories everyday, literally force feeding myself in an effort to reduce loss of mass. Well fast forward a few weeks later, I have been consuming around 3500 calories daily, as well as on creatine, but I have somehow LOST mass !? It is really frustrating and has me baffled as I am literally eating more, but not gaining weight ? It seems as if my metabolism has sped up even more, I dont know what it is. Realistically I've only lost about 3 pounds since my peak, but it is noticeable, I just look leaner, more slim, and my arms have gotten smaller. and YES, I am counting my calories properly, there are no inaccuracies there

I figured it might be the Antibiotics, so I have begun probiotics, but that hasn't really done anything. Im thinking it may even be that I stopped doing a bro split and maybe thats why my physique has changed a bit, however that doesnt explain the weight loss and difficulty gaining weight. Last year when I was consuming this many calories daily, I was weighing over 170.

Sorry for the massive post, I just wanted to make sure all details were out of the way so you guys didn't have to clarify much before making any suggestions. Would appreciate any help or suggestions

    Thanks !!

Are you accurately tracking your calories? When you say losing mass do you mean weight? Those are different things

I'd say overall I am tracking my calories pretty accurately, yes. By Losing mass I mean I am both weighing less on the scale, and aesthetically looking a bit more skinny/deflated, almost as if my water retention from creatine is gone.

Have you lost strength? What are your current strength levels now and before? How many grabs of protein/fat/carbs do you typically consume daily?

I highly doubt your antibiotics impacted your metabolism. Did you have any vomiting/diarrhea with the strep throat and were you officially diagnosed with strep throat? Usually strep throat will not knock you out for 2 full weeks; it should only be symptomatic (badly anyway) for a couple of days after you start the antibiotics.

Add 2 double cheeseburgers to your daily intake. Do this until your desired weight is reached.

Well I guess it was the strep or antibiotics because I've weighed in at least 171 the past 2 days. I also notice a difference in my mass visually, especially with a pump

Anyway, Thanks for all the help and suggestions !
