Low Glucose Postprandial and Testosterone Reading Due to Low Carb Diet?

    Hi,
Lately, I had been feeling very low and that got me to my GP who suggested to take some tests done. Everything seemed fine except for two things: Glucose Postprandial and Testosterone readings which were 58 and 518 respectively. Glucose reading in fasting came 93 (Hba1c 5.5), which is normal.
I was told by the doctor that Glucose Postprandial anywhere below 70 is a matter of concern.
I mentioned Testosterone reading for just one reason. About a year ago, it was 756, but back then my body fat percentage was about 22 (right now it is slightly below 14)

I'm not here to ask for supplements or testosterone booster etc. I'm a natural bodybuilder and I have no such goal. Whatever progress I made was made naturally. It seems I have been keto dieting very badly. One thing that I noticed that over the months I have cut my carbs intake dramatically and in the past 1 month my fat intake was relatively lower. I have been taking moderate protein (keep above 100 grams a day)

And by the way, I am 37 years old; started bodybuilding about 2 and half years ago to lose weight as a primary goal.
Currently, I cardio only once a week and weight train 5 days a week.

I am raising this question here for the sole reason that doctors in India (most of them) have no knowledge of bodybuilding. They tend to confuse.
    Thanks
    Alex

Well you have a problem here too because most of the forum users here are the exact reverse, we know training but have no knowledge of the medical advice you need and tend to get confused.

If the diet approach you have used so far is causing problems, try another diet approach in consultation with your doctor. Blood sugar is too important to get wrong. Just don't ask the doc to give you advice on your squat form

    Good luck, stay healthy

Your testosterone is totally within normal range, which is 270-900 for mid 30's. Your levels are going to fluctuate, there's a pretty good chance that if you tested three days in a row you'd get numbers fluctuating easily by as much as 200.

If you want to keep healthy testosterone levels, make sure to include a healthy source of omega-3s, like cod liver oil. It makes a massive difference, no pun intended. Also consider taking Ashwagandha in the evening, especially if you're in India. Honestly you should consult an ayurvedic specialist, they will be far more helpful with your weight lifting. ZMA is also a good supplement to take at night. None of the supplements I just listed are in themselves testosterone boosters but they all contribute to improving your testosterone levels.

As for your diet, you should do cardio at least 6 out of 7 days a week, once a week is not at all sufficient and could easily be the reason you feel drained from lifting. Once you up your cardio you will notice that you can eat more carbs and fat without fat collecting on your body. Low carb diets cause a rise in cortisol levels, which in turn will lower testosterone and cause muscle atrophy. It's not good for you. You should read about how to properly manage your cortisol levels, it's something most weight lifters neglect and it's going to affect your lifting.

Long shot but I'd have a thyroid test done as well. Your T levels are TOTALLY within specs for someone your age.

I was in a similar boat mid this year. Had low energy levels..all of a sudden, started putting on weight/fat without any significant diet change or workouts (and I'm a cardio freak). Also experienced muscular pain, mood swings, difficulty sleeping and low libido.

Saw my doc and he ordered various tests incl Testosterone. Blood and T tests came out fine. However, doc ordered a thyroid test and mine was thru the roof. I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and been on meds for 3 months now. As of last month, my thyroid levels are now within specs and most of the symptoms are now gone (along with 5lbs weight loss with no change in diet/exercise).

What also helped tremendously was I started supplementing with cod liver oil (per my doc). Not fish oil. Really starting to feel the positive effects as my joint pains are virtually gone. I don't like the idea of taking prescribed drugs for the rest of my life but it is what it is. At least my life has gone back to normal.

It's natural for test to decline while dieting. The things used to make it are being used for energy...

Hmm I was scared to discuss T as a banned topic but drudixon is right about dieting, also low dietary cholesterol can reduce T as well, because cholesterols (and there are different types) are the basis for many hormones. Cut them out of your diet and your body will have a harder time making some hormones.

Not sure what your keto diet included, but if you can eat eggs?consider eating some whole eggs in your diet.

Do all of this in consultation with your doctor.
