    Vit D3 Daily Dose

I had my vitamin D level checked this summer and its around 29 ng/dl. The doctor asked me continue my dose of 2,000 IU per day which I think is too less if I want to lose more weight (I'm currently 220 lbs). I upped my dose to 6,000 IU per day a few days ago and I feel lightheaded most of the time during the day. Am I taking too much too soon? Do I need to cut back?

4000 IU of vitamin D per day is so-called 'tolerable upper intake' dose for adults. This of course varies depending on the weight, age, gender, eating habits, etc.

If your doctor told you to take 2000 IU, don't overdo it - if something is good, too much of it doesn't necessarily mean something even better

And if you are going on a diet, or already on a diet, and feel lightheaded, check your food intake, blood pressure, do some blood tests (not only for vitamin D) etc. It can be due to too much vitamin D, but can be something else ...

I take 2500 UI in the summer and 5000 UI in the winter.

Have done for years, blood tests always bang on etc, no issues.

6000 IU isn't high at all. Certain doctors will prescribe Vitamin D shots at 50,000 IU a week, which comes out at about 7100 IU a day. Don't forget to take Vitamin K2 with it. D3 and K2 work together to take calcium out of the bloodstream and put it where it belongs, in your bones. Too much D3 without enough K2 can lead to hypercalcemia.

there is no perfect standardized dose for everyone. It comes down to what your individual level is to determine how much to supplement. Great video explaining it:
