For those of us who work long hours, have kids and spouses, obligations and other miscellaneous stuff that life throws at us, I ask these questions regarding time management and where your fitness fits in. These questions are mostly out of curiosity on my part and to compare how others manage their time and lifting.
1. How many hours do you work at your job per week? (Me - 50)
2. How long is your commute to work? (Me - 35 minutes)
3. Do you lift at home, commercial gym or elsewhere? (Me - Home gym)
4. Are you married and have kids? (Me - Yes)
5. How many hours do you sleep per day? (Me -7)
And of course...
How many times per week do you work out and for how long? (Me - 4 x 45 minutes)

1. 40*(used to be a lot more...seniority now)
2. 25 minutes
3. Home
4. My kids are all grown up and on thier own
5. 6 hours
6 days a week now, about 45 minutes...at 4 am (early morning is the best way to make a workout unobtrusive imho).
*oh, my wife has her own business and I spend about 10-20 hours a week “working” for her...but I don’t consider that “work” as much as an excuse to spend more time with her.Last edited by grubman; 11-15-2017 at 12:44 PM.

How many hours do you work at your job per week? 20. I work from home in my double garage, training people in the afternoons and evenings. That's paid work. Looking after my kids and the household is on work days 0700-1600 minimum, then it's "half-time, change sides" with my wife, so that's another... well, more than 40 hours a week, unpaid.
How long is your commute to work? About 30 seconds. It's a garage gym.
Do you lift at home, commercial gym or elsewhere? At home, usually at 2130 after the last of them have left (supposed to finish at 2100 but they fck around). I feel the most energy at 1500-1700, but I have the kids and/or clients then.
Are you married and have kids? Well, yeah.
How many hours do you sleep per day? Not enough.
How many times per week do you work out and for how long? 3 times (Mon/Wed/Fri) for an hour, or 90 minutes if I'm fcking around.
I used to work at a globogym, it was more hours and 30 minutes commute each way, and the kids had to be in childcare, so I had work more hours to make the other hours worth it. It just seemed less drama and stress to work from home and do the childcare myself. To me, this is something most of us need to do: look seriously at how we spend our hours to see if we could spend them better, and avoid doing things that stress us a lot.

1. Right now 50 hours. I’ve had time periods doing the 80 hour weeks.
2. Right now its 40 minutes. Soon it will be 5 or less (only 2 miles away).
3. Definitely a commercial gym, my wife and kid would be too disruptive if I worked out at home.
4. I’m married with a kid, didn’t you read #3? LOL
5. I’m typically in the 4-6 hour range during the week, then 6-8 on Saturdays and 8+ on Sundays.
6. Monday (off), Tuesday (45 minutes lift), Wednesday (30 minutes cardio), Thursday (1 hour lift), Friday (45 minutes cardio), Saturday (75 minutes lift), Sunday (45 minutes cardio).ALL I ASK IS ALL YOU GOT FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES

1. Depends on the week some weeks I am lucky and work 36 hours other weeks I'm around 72+ hours. Probably average about 50 hours.
2. Travel to multiple sites. To my home site it takes 30 minutes. Other sites can take up to 1.5 hours.
3. Lift in Commercial gym or sometimes the gym at my home office, but it doesn't generally have all the equipment I use. Works in a pinch though.
4. Married with a teenage daughter
5. I aim for 7-8 hours
Right now I am in a cut so I am in the gym 6 days a week with an average of 1.5 hours.
Right now with the wife back in college and a teenage daughter that likes to lock herself in her room the family really doesn't notice that I am not available much. The harder part on the family is my diet, as they want to order pizza and go out to eat and you just can't do that while trying to cut down or at least not as much when your trying to bulk up.Rome wasn't built in a day!

1. Work? No time to work. 0 (Does kayak fishing count?)
2. Only to the gym via bicycle.
3. Commercial, have to have some inspiration from all the dollies working out. 6 days a week, but I think I'll cut back to less on my gain with more compound lifting. Run daily, it just sets my mind right and lessens the need for food.
4. Single, no kids.
5. When ever I wake up and it feels right, 7 to 8.5 hours.
Pura Vida!!!

everyone gets the same time every week, 168 hours. The way you slice it up is entirely subjective. Even if you devoted 8 hours every week to exercise it would still be about 5% of the time. This is a very small percentage of time to keep the flesh machine running at optimal levels. Most folks just do not manage their time well. More time is spent watching some television show. Thats what you have to love about father time, he doesn't discriminate.

Thanks for this thread - interesting to both share experience and see others'.
1. How many hours do you work at your job per week? Around 45.
2. How long is your commute to work? Roughly 1 hour each way (seriously). Currently working in an area where the wife insisted we get a place by the water, which is far from the city where I work. But she followed me here and this is part of the give/take in any healthy relationship. I use my commute to sort of 'meditate', though the dream would be to summon the energy to bike to work. I would love to bike to work, lift during my lunch break, and bike home, etc. Not a very bike friendly place where I am at the moment though.
3. Do you lift at home, commercial gym or elsewhere? Commercial gym. It's really close to where I work so I'm antisocial at the office and go there during my lunch break on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
4. Are you married and have kids? Married but no kids (yet) - planning to. I'm a bit nervous about the time commitment but my wife and I have spoken about this at length and she's really pushing me to commit to this training lifestyle, and insists I'll be able to keep it up once we have kids.
5. How many hours do you sleep per day? Around 8, on average.
How many times per week do you work out and for how long? 4 times lifting, around 45 minutes each lifting session. But I'm starting to swim/run now also (slowly), hoping to do a triathlon sometime next year, and (the dream) an Ironman on my 40th birthday. Am 37 now (for some reason my age no longer shows in my profile).
On what ironwill2008 said earlier in the thread - this is the plan. To try to age like a decent wine instead of milk. I'd love to be that kind of guy heading towards retirement that could lift a decent amount of weight and have solid cardio as well.
