Hello,
So my shoulder has never really been in tip top shape, but now over the last year it's really become a big issue in my daily life. For a long time I thought the cause of my shoulder/lats pain was indeed a shoulder injury, but after explaining my situation to a shoulder specialist, he came to the conclusion that it's very unlikely that this is a shoulder issue, so he thought it was related to my neck. I have not experienced any pain in my neck though..
The pain is moving alot to different locations of the shoulder (in front of my shoulder capsule sometimes, butmost of the time on the back closer to my neck, you know when you put your chin towards your chest it stretches behind, that's where it hurts). The two places where the pain is always present is in my lats on the side just under my armpit, and around the sides of my shoulder blades it seems. (the place that I stretch when I put my chin towards my chest is included), but the pain stretches futher and around my shoulder blade closer to my lats. The weird thing however, is that it seems to be building up over the day when being physically active. One heavy lift that requires the latissimus muscle to work quite a bit, is enough. If I have to do that in the morning, the pain builds up and lasts the entire day. It doesn't hurt much as I do the lifting, but after.. It fades away maybe a little bit after a while, but it is definitely worse and more painful than it would be if I didn't have to use it. This limits me in the gym as well as my work life, and it is really frustrating how it seems impossible to get an answer or some helpful tips as to what I may do to help the pain go away.. I have gone to physical therapists, chiropractor,
naprapath, shoulder specialist, and I have spent a lot of money and I'm no closer to finding out how I can get better. I have taken Magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound as well, but nothing wrong according to that..
And another thing! For example using a rowing machine, that is pretty good work for the lats, but even though this is not particularly heavy, it will hurt a lot for the rest of the day after a good 10 minute rowing session. But my question is, even though this hurts, can it make the injury worse?? It's not like im lifting heavy, so idk. IF I just embrace the pain and keep doing it, and make the muscle become stronger, could this help the pain go away in the end? I just don't wanna make it worse.
What can I do? I'd rather just sit home than go to the gym or work at this point to avoid experiencing the pain, and it's breaking me..
Thank you!
