Hip thrusts using leg extension machine

My gym doesnt have bumper plates, only hex, so doing hip thrusts are really awkward and nearly impossible. Ive seen multiple videos of girls using the leg extension machine as a hip thrust replacement but idk i swore i would never use a machine totally incorrectly like that - would you guys do it? Have you ever? Did you get weird looks ?

Try with the small straight bar, the one used for curls. I think it's 20 or 30 lbs maybe? I use that one with 45 plates and it works fine.

Try scooting under it? Or do it as glute bridges without the bench so it's easier to scoot under the bar.

Here are some that I do in addition to hip thrusts and glute bridges:

    Box squat
    Reverse lunges
    Sumo deadlifts
    Romanian deadlifts
    Kettle bell swings
Single leg kettle bell hip thrusts (actually you can do these with dumbbells too so maybe give these a try as hip thrust variation)
    Pull throughs
    Bulgarian split squats
    Hammie curls
    Single leg hyperextensions

Try pull thru's using a cable crossover machine. Just use a bigger range of motion and keep the knees locked.

I actually prefer to do Hip Thrusts in the Leg Extension because I can prioritize focusing on the contraction of the glutes instead of worrying about stabilizing a barbell on my hips. It is also more comfortable on the hips than the barbell variations due to the thick pad. So it's a win in my books.

I've seen quite a few people do them using the lying leg curl machine.

Probably because it's hidden in the corner lol...

It does not look weird using the leg extension. It actually provides more cushioning so it's arguably better. If you still feel uncomfortable then doing single leg hip thrusts off a bench with a dumbbell for extra weight will do the same thing.
