Does anybody here gain muscle REALLY fast? (natty)

My body needs work, I need to lose the skinny fat look and drop some bodyfat.

However, I've been working out and look better than I have in a while and I've always thought (and I'm just recently re-confirming this) that I gain muscle extremely fast.

My diet is mediocre, I lift maybe 2 times per week and I completely miss one week a month or more every month from traveling.

Yet... I can see a really significant muscle mass increase every 30 days. I think muscle memory could be a part of it (used to lift a lot ~8-9 years ago) but if I were to eat really good and find time to hit the gym 4x a week I feel like I'd get ripped, like bicycle rider looking ripped fast. Could be wrong but just a guess. I definitely have things I don't like about my body but that's one thing I've always really liked.

Muscle memory would be a factor

But you'd need to post metrics ...weight gain, measurement increase over time

    Not post gym pump

Haven't been to the gym in 2 days, noticed this today. Significant new mass with 2 gym sessions a week at the most lol.

I haven't been measuring but should start. Maybe it's just that my gym pump stays with me for 3-4 days.

I have no idea if the following things are what make a difference to me, but here are some things that I do when lifting, I'm curious if you do these.

    Do you...

    1) Listen to music that energizes you at the gym?
    2) Get 8 hours ish of sleep every night?
    3) When you do a set, do you go until real failure with a high level of intensity?
    4) Rep range of maybe 8-10?
    5) Drink lots of water throughout the day?
    6) Get protein in right after you lift?
    7) Mix up your workouts here and there?
    8) Sometimes take breaks like a whole week off?
    9) Make sure to go full range of motion, spending at least 2 seconds on the decline portion of a lift?

I get those in, it could be some factor. I've also started caffiene before lifting with warmups, both have helped intensity.

edit: and just to be clear, I'm not some ripped guy. I took a long time off, I'm in decent shape but need work myself, I just can see myself gain a good amount of mass on a monthly basis with a 2x/week routine at best. If I had to guess, it's the intensity of your lifts that make the biggest difference. 90% of the guys I see at the gym don't really try that hard, by the end of a set you should look like you're about to drop whatever it is you have.

Yes you do ...don't be dysmorphic. Also at your age you have hormonal profile of hypertrophy Gods .

Metrics will be interesting but inconsequential ...I do think some gain easier at specific times, under specific circumstances

    Yes and no.

    Yes was when:
    No alcohol
Clean diet with lots of food
Proper supplementation (fish oil, whey, creating etc)
Consistency - never miss workout unless properly unwell
Proper mindset to smash every workout
Enough time to do every workout properly
Mixing up.between high volume and strength periodically

    No was when
    None of the above

Lol.. well let's look at this.

    1) Good intense music can increase adrenaline, increasing strength and intensity (scientific)
    2) As you said, scientific
    3) Also scientific as far as I'm aware, have read a few relatively recent articles talking about going until failure or about 1 rep shy of real failure.
    4) As you said, scientific
    5) No idea if it really makes a difference but it's something I've always done, so, who knows.
    6) I've seen both sides of this. Many scientific journals shows the body absorbs the protein better roughly 30 minutes after an intense exercise but then I've seen posts on forums saying that's not entirely true. Do you know something different?
    7) I have a strong gut feeling that breaks can "surprise" your body and kick start new mass, but again that's a gut feeling so not really evidence of anything, just a hunch I've always had.
    8) Same as above.
    9) Very much science backed

I love muscle memory. I'm so happy my younger self lifted, maybe that's all I'm seeing is my body regain it's old status much faster than it would otherwise.

When I have kids, I really want to encourage lifting at the later teen years so that they have this benefit their whole life like I feel like I do.

There's minutiae and marginal benefit for pro athletes / pro bb and then there's stuff that impacts on the regular person

Also you added 1 or 2 since my post

Going to failure shouldn't be every time, rep range is debatable, rest is vital and deloads necessary

Sure somebody could debate rep range, but it seems most everyone would agree that for max hypertrophy there's a certain rep range and time per set that works. You'd be the first I've seen to suggest otherwise or that there isn't really a common acceptance of the rep range numbers.

Also, #1 is a real thing (adrenaline)

What I'm really curious about is #6 about taking the protein in after your workout. Back when I was certified, the way my education read was that it's solid, proven research that there's an optimal window for the protein. Not that it's necessary, just optimal. Do you know for sure that it has been debunked?

The giant books I read on exercise to become certified were showing peer reviewed studies that implied there's a clear optimal window.

I'd say muscle memory has lots to do with it boyo

I've worked out 3-4 times after not going since last Thanksgiving. My legs lost lot of size but just from those few work outs they had swelled up. Pants were tighter etc. I noticed it more on legs for sure.

No where did I say we all gain muscle at the same rate. Adding muscle REALLY fast...what does that even mean? It's not like we can pile on slabs of muscle at lightening speed.

And the longer your'e in the game it slows down even more.

I tend to gain muscle and lose fat somewhat easily.

Kinda makes me feel ashamed as far as how out of shape I was when I was bad.

That said getting really lean is still a struggle in terms of I have to really commit to cardio and diet.

Well, in this case, "fast" just means at a faster rate than normal right? Really fast being an extent of that.

You said gaining muscle fast or really fast isn't really a thing, suggesting there's no variation of people and how quickly they add mass. That's what I got from it.

First read this narrative review to familiarize yourself with the concepts & questions being contemplated:
    https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/arti...1550-2783-10-5

Then read this meta-analysis examining the 'anabolic window' question across multiple studies of relevance:
    https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/arti...550-2783-10-53

Then read this RCT directly examining immediate-pre vs immediate postW protein feeding:
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5214805/

^^^^This is all research my colleagues and I have done, and the big certification bodies (if they're on top of their sh!t) are referencing our research.

    Happy reading.

op you should try lifting 5-6 day a week hard with a better diet. see if that helps you gain even more muscle and lose fat.

I think I do, but it's probably because I have high testosterone. I've seen an increase hair everywhere in just the last couple of years. My beard is trying to touch my eyes and wrap around my ears. I may look like a wolverine soon. Lol. Srs.
