Ectomorph: Is it worth it to workout without being on a caloric surplus?

    Hi

I am wondering if its even worth it to be working on without being on a caloric surplus. When I dont eat on a caloric surplus than I dont seem to be adding weight at all and my strength in the gym isnt even going up

On days I cant eat on a caloric surplus, should I just not lift? Doesnt seem to be worth it

    Thanks

You should understand that a caloric surplus is not just for a day it spans over a longer period.
If you are gaining 0.5-2 pounds per week than you are on a caloric surplus.

Assuming you are a beginner you are still able to progress without a caloric surplus.

    Oh okay, thanks

The sweet number to hit is 3000calories per day as im an ectomorph and naturally burn calories fast

So even if I eat 3000calories everyday but miss one day and lets say got 1500calories, thats fine?

I can't tell you what's enough or not but if you are gaining weight then you are in an overall caloric surplus.

so by the end of the week altogether? How would I calculate that?

I always thought it was the number you hit at the end of the day

Get my fitness pal and count your calories bro I have been doing it for the past months and it's quite easy. After a while you will know what you need to eat so if you miss a day where you can't count your calories you should have a rough idea of what your body needs for the day.

If your target is 3000 calories a day, that's 21,000 calories a week.

OP, I am an 'ectomorph' too, and needless to say that your alimentation is important. Without being in caloric surplus, your progression will fastly become pretty slow. Especially if you're having a lot of activities in your day, and if you are tall.
Try eating bread, drinking milk, and eat everytime you can. I started like that and I had results, obviously nothing crazy, but still.

So yeah you can at the beginning if you just eat normally, but not for a long time. Good luck

Can't believe this ectomorph **** is still this commonplace.

Eat a surplus, gain 2lbs a month. Get 0.8g per lb bw protein. 0.4g per lb fat. And plenty of fruit and veg.

Run a properly designed novice program.

When someone newbie google, "I am skinny and eating tons of food" first 1500 links are "you are ectomorphhardgainer - you need our serious mass gainer in order to gain weight".
