    Squat Back Pain

    Hey guys,
When squating, ive usually rested the bar directly on the shoulders, which has been working fine except for the minor pain from the weight. Recently ive been trying to hold the bar just below the shoulders while digging the bar into the muscle, however this causes very sharp pain in the Lats. Is this normal? Do i just need to strengthen my lats or is this a problem?

whether you squat high or low bar, you want the lats tightened so your upper back muscles make a "shelf" for the bar to sit on, which should remain this way the whole movement.

try squatting with just the bar, but focus on tightening your lats so theres a place for the bar to go, then judge the pain you're getting, if any, from there

The bar should sit right on the Lats. Unless you're resting it on neck bone?? If so, let it roll down a bit. Should feel completely comfortable. Too high is too high...

In no form of squat does the bar rest on the lats. It's either resting on the rear deltoids, when lowbar squatting, or on the traps, when highbar squatting. Maybe you meant traps though.

OP sounds like you're doing something wrong. Do you have a video of you squatting? If so upload it to youtube and post it here. You're going to have to space the link out a bit because of your postcount.
