Rice, potatoes, pasta etc
Chicken is reasonably cheap protein depending how you buy it,
mince can be fairly cheap too.
Tinned tomatoes, beans etc.
Unflavoured whey is pretty cheap too if you are really struggling to hit your protein.5 day full body crew

As the boards' resident Italian I need to make my customary suggestion of olive oil lol.
I'm not sure how much extra virgin costs in Canada, but just one tablespoon packs a lot of calories, so it should be pretty cost effective.
I drink it by the spoonful sometimes (it's actually kind of nice once you get used to it). You could have it with a meal, or before bed alongside a shake."Listen, I want you to come down here and go dancing with me and we'll have fun together. You know you like The Spaniard, you know you like The Sith Lord, you know that. Hello? You're blushing, I know you're into The Sith Lord, I know it! Hello? Hello? Helloooo? Aww I lost connection."
