Arrow Were hex plates designed to discourage deadlifting?

This random thought just came to my head. I always wondered why hex plates were a thing. No one likes them. It makes deadlifting any decent weight for reps impossible because it is so awkward. Then I realized gyms must love it because it discourages its members from deadlifting.

Would not surprise me one bit. I know that cubicles were first designed to break the morale of workers and discourage independent thinking. I thought it was for space saving reasons like everyone else at first until I read the psychology behind it. I guess everything was created for a reason.

I don't even like doing rows with hex plates because you have to set it down precisely afterwards. If the plates hit at a non perfect angle then it is really jarring and tumbles around. If you have any kind of weight on the bar it sends those shockwaves through your shoulders. RIP rotator cuffs.

How? Most plates have a lip around the rim or holes for hand placement. I don't see how sharp edges on top of that make it easier to carry. Srs.

Sounds like a planet fitness idea

I always assumed it was to give gym owners a reason to buy new weights. Actually using them for anything was an afterthought.

I legit don't know a single person who likes them or prefers them over round plates. That is why I theorize gyms buy them so people don't deadlift with them.

This is pretty genius if it works reliably. I can see it falling apart mid set like a broken set of tank treads. Then you have to deadlift with not only hex plates but also rubber treads draped over them.

Sounds like a planet fitness idea

How do they make money? I heard they have pizza buffet on certain days. A group of fatties would literally eat all their profits considering memberships are only like $20/month.

Lol using hex plates, slamming down your first rep and one side of the bar rolls and makes it diagonal. WTF?

Would not surprise me one bit. I know that cubicles were first designed to break the morale of workers and discourage independent thinking. I thought it was for space saving reasons like everyone else at first until I read the psychology behind it. I guess everything was created for a reason.
I left my previous gym BECAUSE they swapped out all their Ivanko plates for those hex plates.

I don't think its because of some anti-deadlift conspiracy, I think its because hardly anyone does deadlifts, and more people use plates for stupid chit like side bends for the obliques. Also, those extra holes make the plates easier to maneuver for quirky crossfit level exercises that pt's come up with for their oblivious customers.

my only deadlift injury was from attempting them with hex plates. There's such a small margin of error when it comes to heavy deads and all it took was those plates to shift and it gave me an itinerary to Snap City. I still do deads, but i'll never be able to lift as heavy as I use to, and all because of those phuckin' plates.

I remember one gym actually had legit eleiko plates and platforms. It used to be a weightlifting and powerlifting gym until it got bought out and turned into a crossfit gym a few years back. So pissed when that happened. Now it is just a giant empty space with people doing retarded classes instead of being a normal gym.

One side clunks forward and the other side moves backwards. Then you are caught in a twister with heavy weights. There goes your spine. Welcome to snap city, population: you.

Like I said I don't know a single person who likes them. How are hex plate makers still in business and why do gyms keep buying them? My anti-deadlift theory is the only thing that makes sense to me.

I highly doubt it. That's just the particular design they were going for. Funny because I'm literally at the gym in the middle of a deadlift session with hex plates. It's not the best with them, but do able.
