    Recommended barbell rack?

Im looking for something to store barbells. I have limited headroom, so I cant really use one of those slide in "cupholder" style barbell holders. Ideally I am just looking for something like this: ironcompany.com/olympic-barbell-2-bar-hanger.aspx, but not so overpriced.

Nice! Looks higher quality, and fits an extra bar too, thanks.

I will think about the gunrack as well. Not sure I have enough wall space.

I recently bought the Rogue 6 bar gun rack, it's a great way to store barbells, as Dom points out, it's well worth shelling out the extra for the uhmw to protect your bars.

This. I would highly recommend the Rogue gun rack - and definitely pay extra for the uhmw.

Christians Fitness Factory has a few that are basic but decent. I have their 9 bar upright one that I think was a great deal for $120 ish. But they also have a gun rack style for $87 and free shipping.

I know this is the Equipment Forum, but a gun rack is two pieces of cut, bent steel with something to protect the bar. I cannot imagine that there is any quality difference other than the finish of the paint. The thickness of the material is of no significance once you get past a minimum thickness. The difference in price is strictly based on what the market will bear.

Also, UHMW is overkill for this application. The bars are unweighted. Almost any durable polymer will be fine. Offering UHMW is playing to the masses while seemingly justifying the high price.

Seems to me that the extra $40 for the Rogue is for the brand name.

I agree with this. btw if price really is an issue, i know some of the regulars just screwed hooks into the wall that are dipped in plastic and hung bars from them.

    REP carries them too: https://www.repfitness.com/rep-gun-rack-barbell-storage

i kind of like the look of these, but you're not wrong in that they're all really straightforward. my only problem with mine was that i mounted mine on the studs and had to flip them from right to left in order for them to fit inside the collars.

I bought a couple of wall hooks for other equipment. The only problem with buying enough hooks for hanging bars is that they tend to be just as expensive as a gun rack. Lowes sells rubber coated, screw-in hooks starting at $5 each. That is $10 per bar. I would rather buy the Titan gun rack. Alas, I do not have enough wall space to hang my bars. I have my unused bars leaned up in a corner.

this comes as a surprise to none of the regulars: but i don't spend enough time at the hardware store to know how much stuff like that costs. before i bought, people told me to get the 6 bar but, like you, my space doesn't work out that well. that may change later, but for now, the 3 bar is (almost) enough. how many unused bars do you have laying about? have you thought about getting one of those vertical bar holders? i'm not a big fan, but lucky for me it's not even an option; my ceiling is too low to allow me to use them.

I'm honestly surprised you only have a three bar rack...i've got a full six bar rack, two bars leaning in a corner, and two bars over at a friend's place...

    you need more bars...

i have an ob-86b sitting in my old squat rack that serves as my pull up station. i have 3 bars that see regular use, one of which is always in the rack. i've gotten rid of 2 beater bars, but i've been fortunate to come across my 3 commercial bars used at a great price, so it's been tough to pull the trigger on even fair priced bars on the market. no need and the deal isn't as sweet.

it would be nice to find a larger diameter bar for pressing to see how i like it. my bars are all 28-28.5mm, but really it'd just be an excuse to add another bar. i've never noticed problems.

Like the OP, I have a low ceiling. Unlike the OP, I have no room for vertical storage. Standing a bar on end, I have 4 inches of clearance. I already have a dent in the ceiling from hitting it with a bar. I have 3 bars on my rack and 4 bars leaning against my wall.

To answer OP's question, since he has room for vertical storage and he is only looking for storing 2 bars, he could use something like the Tornado 00510 Extended U-Hook. It has a capacity of 50 lbs. An Amazon question was answered that the hook can support a 45 lb barbell. If the hook is screwed into a stud or to a backing board screwed into a stud, it should be fine. And the cost at $7 each is a lot less than the other alternatives bandied about here.

That looks exactly like one of two hooks I got for my mountain bike. I think it was a Home Depot variety, whatever they sell. My bike pinched down the plastic too hard and cut right through it to the bare steel over time.

Get some Nylon tubing from the plumbing department. Get a size that will slide over the steel arms and you should be good to go. the Nylon tubing is much tougher than the thin plastic they use on those hooks.

There are a couple other gun racks out there that I wouldn't mind having - but the prices are similar to rogues. I'm always surprised how much guests notice and comment on the gun rack. For something that gets noticed so much, I'd hate to think that they were looking at something made by Titan.

Thanks guys, I think I will either rig something with lowes parts, or go with a gunrack as suggested. Might mount the gunrack in a "V" so that it can accomodate different bars (Havent decided if I want a curl bar or if my dumbells will be enough)
