I tried SSB for a while. I noticed a few things. I got better at SSB, my knees hurt more and my quads are always feeling tired. Used it for 8 ish weeks. Not exclusively, I had a back squat day and an SSB day. Just finished, now to see if it transfers over well to back squat since volume is dropping.

I found box squats with the ssb to cary over well to my deadlift. Get your stance set like your deadlift and a high box to squat to. Haven't had any knee pains before with it and I have bad knees.

It has been a long ass time since I've posted and I have no idea why.
What have I missed in the last ~2 years of powerlifting? Who is the current greatest? Any new comers shocking the world recently? How is everyone here doing?Log -> http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=153108621

Yep! Not gonna lie a lot of it was spent just going through the motions with nagging injuries (when I can't squat/DL I'm just bored out of my mind in the gym I don't know how bodybuilders do it) but I've changed some things around and am feeling good right now which has brought the PL motivation roaring back.

Equipped guys: at a meet how far out do you start wrapping and getting straps up? When I did raw w/ wraps I would start wrapping 3 or 4 out. And I just found out there will only be 6 guys in my flight and I'm the only equipped guy. Sounds like it'll be a nightmare.

6 in the flight is going to suck. I start wrapping 3 out when the bar is called ready for the 3rd out. I'll usually look at the weights in the flight and if there's a big jump somewhere or they're taking the rack from in to out or whatever I'll wrap a little bit later. Just depends how much time you're comfortable with standing around with wraps on.

Damn really?
I was wrapping when 2 guy in front starts approaching the bar. Usually finish the one leg then start and finish while guy in front is lifting. So straps goin up and wrists as bar is loading and that’s it. Granted I’m not immediately ready when the clock starts. But I usually have the bar unracked around 15 seconds left.
DISCLAIMER: I hate knee wraps and self wrap and only get 4 lateral revs, 1 cross then the tuck. It takes every fiber in my body not to strip them off on the platform.

Been a year since my last comp due to finishing my masters. Back and building a "home gym," with a squat rack, bar, flat bench, and bumper plates.
Any good routines that have me lifting 5x/week with just that equipment? I was looking at Smolov but I'd really like to get deadlift work back in on a regular basis.

Nice, keep it moving forward. I just started posting again to now that I can start lifting again. Just finished my first real full training cycle I've been able to do since 2014.
Self wrapped here as well but I started when 1 out was getting their plates loaded. I don't pre-stretch/roll my wraps as only used 2m. Also, I don't use wrist wraps on squats so didn't have to worry about those. Straps up as my weights were being loaded. Big sniff of broken smelling salts in a bottle when bar was loaded. Belt set as walking out to the platform. My Training Journal: http://tinyurl.com/jasons-journal

Im confused... if I'm pulling the bar into me to take the slack out howncan I start with higher hips..? It feels as if that's my powerful position. You don't understand how bad I wanna fix this sorry if I'm a bother
Forgot to mention someone at my gym is telling me to sit more and that will make my pull more straight. Wouldn't that make my hips start lower?Last edited by Dmetti; 10-27-2017 at 01:22 AM.

It's a tradeoff between time standing in wraps and having enough time to make adjustments if something goes wrong, like you or your wrapper loses grip and the wrap comes undone. It also depends how quickly you can get wrapped. Btw you wear THPs right? Those can be pretty painful. Whenever I get in the sig golds after training in THPs it's like there's nothing on my knees.

Messaged the meet director to see if there's anything he can do, but then I also don't wanna be a special snowflake and demand the meet to be catered to my needs. Worst case I wouldn't mind skipping my 2nd attempt squat. Just need to hit the QT anyways.

Do a Paused Deadlift rep with 135. Figure out where (right when the bar leaves the ground) you feel the strongest. If your hips are high **** everyone else. If they are lower **** everyone else.
My hips for sumo are high and I’m pretty bent over. It’s all about YOUR anatomy.
Golds still drive me crazy. For me once the feet start feeling the numb onset it becomes a mental battle. I am one of the guys when I got closer to the meet I would gear up and wait for a minute before I would get under the bar just to feel better at the meet.

You can tell your fellow lifters to take their time and run out an extra few seconds before getting under the bar. You can intentionally end each attempt with a 2.5 and 1.25 plate which will slow the spotters down some. You can go with whatever rack position is less popular (in v out) to slow them down. You can look at your flight and take jumps intended to move yourself later in the flight each round. You can punch the guy before you in the nose, give him bloody nose, say you can't lift until the blood on the platform is cleared up and dry
