Pretty much reaffirms what we all know about this bar, just buy the OPB/TPB for 1/3 the price. One contradictory statement he made REALLY illustrates the subjective nature of knurling. He claims to rate knurling by how aggressive it is (more aggressive = better) yet he says the Kabuki is less 'abrasive' and more "sticky" compared to the OPB, but it's somehow reset his standard and become his favorite? This is a good example of what happens when you are trying your damn hardest to justify the price, but your subconscious knows you got taken to the cleaners and is twisting preference. Come on bro you isn't fooling me! Ugly endcaps didn't delay your review, it just took longer than expected to craft a review that looked favorable for Kabuki.

I think his thoughts on knurl could be valid. He says he has hard hands which I think I do too I've never really been able to tell you the difference between knurl between big box store bars right on to my OPB it all kinda feels the same to me. The only one that grips me hard enough to tear my hands up is my trap bar(mega hex) and then only above 350 or so. I think that patern could make sense for trapping your hands and shirt in all the little "volcanos". I know my opb is far more agressive than the classic york I have because I've squatted shirtless with both and got tore up by the opb setting up.

Personally I think there's a ton of smoke and mirrors with the power bar but sometimes the placebo effect is enough to get the job done. I've kind of come to like all the little finish issues and blemishes in these bars though they seem much more like a custom 1 off item rather than Rogues typical perfect uniformity between items but then again I could say the very same thing about all Titan's misshaped items.

In a blindfolded test, an OB86 would perform very favorably for a $150 bar. Ivanko has decades of experience behind its name and people balk at paying $600+ for an OBX20kg. Iron Wolfe used to get some flak for overpricing their bars but those were some of the most beautiful bars I've seen. What does the Kabuki bar have to justify its price? I'm not sure the small business appeal will last very long if he keeps making equipment like this at this price point.

Rogue has made bars with better knurling in the past. I think they went overly aggressive with the OPB because that is what people expect and they need some differentiation between their million different offerings.

Not as much as compared to OBXS-20kg. If you wait you can find OBX-20kg used based on where you are.

I don't even feel it's that regressive. I just find I don't like how it feels in my hands. All my other power bars except my B&R v1, if you consider a power bar, are more aggressive and grab better.

I feel the OPB is gritty. For grip power it's just ok not much more then my B&Rv1 bar that I feel is a gritty light knurl. But I don't mind it on the B&R. My Vulcan Absolute v2 has the most grip/grab/hold then any of my other bars. It has lots of little peaks.

More peaks then my Westside v1 that is a slightly deeper cut which it has more peaks then a TPB and I feel the Westside v1 has better holding power then the TPB. My Jesup has deep cuts but no tips. It is my favorite knurl and holds as well as my Westside v1.

I agree that the Rogue Westside 1 bar and the old Jesup bar are very good. I'm a big fan of the B&R 1 and I prefer all 3 of the aforementioned bars over the current TPB in terms of knurl. I should mention that I pull with a hook grip and so the feel in my hands isn't terribly different since it all basically hurts after a set or two. Same story with benching because of how tight I wrap my wrists lol. Where I feel the difference is with squatting low bar and here is where the OPB shines for me. The OPB stays put without digging into my traps the same way a bar with peaky knurl does. Now, is that because of the knurl or the 29mm shaft size or the bare steel or a combination of all three? I'm not sure.

I haven't tried any Vulcan power bars yet. Is your Absolute in black oxide?

Right, I just mean that Kabuki probably won't be able to get by solely with the MADE IN THE USA factor if Ivanko can't.

I would agree with this, I think they went with an overly sharp knurl just for differentiation and assuming this is what the powerlifting market would want. I feel they could've developed a better aggressive knurl without being so sharp and to a point. That said, I recently felt the Black Zinc 20Kg bar and I think that it feels less sharp (and more slick) than the bare steel offering which was the bar that I owned. As much as I don't like black zinc coatings, if I were to own another OPB, the 20Kg would likely be the bar I'd opt for.

    ...
My OPB stays put on my back just fine too. My Absolute is the black oxide and I find I can't slide into place like I can with the bare steel OPB. I guess I'm aggressive in my setup. I had the SS version very briefly and it had a slightly deeper cut then the BO and still peaked. I fell in love with it right away. Hated to send it back but it's knurl marks were 36" apart.

Sorry if it didnt make sense. As an update i find i use the Kabuki bar more. Grip feels better. I tried to make the connection that it reset my definition of knurl, so indont know if thats being contradictory or not. At the end of the day it is more expensive (way more) but if youbjust compare this head to head with my black oxide OPB i think the Kabuki wins.

It should be better...it's just about twice the price!
