Lol. He's pretty tight with Kabuki, which is why they were tagged. I don't see any dual knurl center marks on the bar (scroll over on IG post to see pic of bar afterwards). I sure wish he would've mentioned more about it though.. hope that was just a cheap chrome bar and not something we all use..

Figures. Didn't look like one as it didn't look to have the center ring but some of the bars center ring was knurled still.

I'm surprised he didn't say at least something about it not being a Kabuki bar or if it wasa Kabuki bar that wouldn't have happened or something. Being coach sponsored one could easily think he's using Kabuki's equipment.

He tagged elitefts too, but no one seems to think it was their equipment failing. The video also had the location tagged (Crossfit Thunder), which is not his usual gym. I'm not sure that I have seen anyone outside of this thread who believed it to be a kabuki bar. Additionally, as a sponsored athlete, there is no way he would post a public video of "the world's strongest barbell" being permanently damaged during a lift.

    Thumbs down

Just got mine in and started doing squats. First look, it's a beautiful bar. Then I noticed the knurling looks double traced and mushy at the ends. It's also not a clean transition from knurl to smooth. Sleeves are also nickel coated. Brady assured me that my bar couldn't be one of the first 50 bars that had this problem. After comparing my bar to one posted in this thread, I believe he was incorrect. Those sleeves slop from side to side worse than Texas power bars. The nickel coating is very slippery on my cotton shirt. Honestly, I just want to send it back. My old, Westside power bar that's well worn feels much better than this Kabuki bar. I could get two OPB stainless steel for the price of one of these and expect high quality bars.

I just assumed it was a cheapo chrome bar. Was it confirmed Troy or just a guess on Reddit? The follow up being which Troy bar?

Once we have a positive ID, I might. If it is a cheapo, everyone says ditch them from the beginning anyway. If it turns out it was a Troy bar, then it is something else, but will depend on which. If it's Troy's TPB, that's a big issue and I will pitchfork in the Troy fanboi thread. If it was a Troy bar for oly lifting (do they even have one?), well then that's abuse.

What part of Troy Texas power bars aren’t made by buddy Capps don’t people understand. The real Texas power bar is to this day still the highest quality bar under 1,000 dollars anyone will ever own. This is an objective fact.

Having owned a TPB that came directly from Buddy, I would disagree.

My bar did come extremely straight with aggressive knurling that you either love or hate.

My biggest complaint was the way in which the sleeves attach with the roll pins. My bar came from Buddy with burrs in the roll pin slots and hammer dents on the sleeves. The sleeves also had a lot of side to side play.

Update the bar with snap rings and it can compete with other power bars like the OPB.

I agree with you that after having owned a few Texas bars that sometimes the roll pins have hammer marks in the bar surrounding it but so minimally it never bothered me and I’m very ocd so.... I own an Ohio power bar and I have to be honest the Texas bar feels more stout and beefy in every way. The give on the sleeves is very small and maybe I’m an idiot for saying this but to me the roll pins feel more secure than the snap rings on the Ohio, I would even consider that a selling point as far as the Texas bars ruggedness and to be honest it has a smoother spin. Throw some dry silicone in there every few months and it will last five decades problem free. The knurl is also much much more resilient than the Ohio I’m living proof of that as my Ohio is newer, used less and knurls looks much flatter

I keep coming back to this same conclusion as well...the TPB is where it's at for me. I've tried nearly everything else out there, yet I keep coming back to this bar. It's nothing fancy, it's just a sturdy bar.

I agree with you guys on this as well. I've owned a TPB for ~3 years and have used it regularly (3+ times per week for bench, deads, and squats). It is straight and knurl is great on it. I also use OPBs on a regular basis when I work out at the gym, and while they are good bars, they just doesn't feel as good to me as the TPB. I guess it's largely a matter of personal taste, but I prefer the knurl on the TPB as well as the larger "plate stop" section on the sleeves between the shaft and the plates. With the OPB I have to pay much more attention when racking squats and bench to avoid banging the uprights with the plates.

If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Jim Wendler

This is what I miss about my TPB. I am always banging plates with my OBX on my wide Rogue rack.

I'm really glad you made that original comment about always circling back to the TPB, it's what pushed me off the fence right before I made my decision. The TPB has almost completely replaced my REP stainless barbell in the lineup, and after my squat failure with 300lbs I don't doubt the longevity of this barbell. Cosmetically mine did come with the same small hammer marks on the sleeves, minor imperfections on the knurling (couple sharp snags), but overall I'm very happy with how it looks and performs.

The Black Zinc looks beautiful and after the first few weeks the knurling doesn't even feel that aggressive to me anymore. The only thing I wish they would do differently is smooth out the sleeves, but for how bad@ss they look it's a tradeoff I'm willing to accept. I'm sure the OPB is awesome but I really wanted something with more history and that 'Cool' factor.

Yeah, I hate seeing these new online "review"/ad sites and videos that call the TPB outdated. It's a freaking shaft of steel and a couple sleeves. How does that go outdated and how is another bar with a shaft of over baked steel with a couple sleeves on it become "next gen"? The only reason I don't have a TPB is because I have the Westside PBv1 with a 29mm shaft and I personally don't want a 28.5mm shaft. Otherwise the TBP is a good bar that has proven itself over the decades.

I like the TPB, but the knurl to me is better for deadlifts than squat or bench. The "NextGen" bar is below rogue fitness quality as far as the knurling, coating and functionality. I can't have a bar like the Kabuki bar anymore. I'd much rather have an Ivanko SS bar if I wanted to spend a bunch of money on a bar. That or if Iron Wolfe would make bars like they are rumored to, I'd pick one up in a heart beat.

I'm been AFK for a while. I come back & am seeing all the love for the TPB? When did that happen?
What is the forum's opinion of the TPB vs OPB? I'll start a new thread if needed. This seems like a WTF compared to the general consensus here since I started posting in 2013. What year is this again?

Sooner or later everyone is going to remember a bar is just a bar. Didn't have all these silly discussions before the internet came to be.

Of course it won't stop me from having a bar for every exercise. Including the sure to be famous Kabuki power bar.

You know my list of specialty bars is, but my OBX's knurling is just frustrating for low bar & deadlifting.
Are the sleeves smooth? That's really all I give a damn about after knurling & finish.

For the most part totally agree. A good bar is a good bar. There is chit out there though. Like that bar used by sully. And for some it's an enjoyment to collecting different bars.

Honestly that's a tough call. From a pure powerlifting perspective the OHP has the edge only because it's 29mm. For anyone else I'd suggest the TPB over the OHP as it's a great classic and I like the knurl a lot more. Both personal preferences. Both good bars that anyone can't go wrong with for any situation besides quick lifts and both have features I don't like personally.

Having laid hands on both TPB (which was little beat up) and OPB ( which was almost new but used, with black zinc shaft) , I would say TPB makes OPB look like wuss.

If you don't care about about shaft diameter, TPB is way to go and it defientely looks real bad ass.

The only other bar I know and used where the collars are wide enough (plate stops) is OB-86.

Yea I just returned my new rep stainless bar a few weeks ago. Like I said one sleeve had about a quarter inch sway to it and the other side had zero. That right there is a dealbreaker and a half, but even if that blatant defect wasn’t there, I swear to god the knurling was the exact same thing as the modells 300 lb set bar I had from college, I can’t believe anyone would say otherwise after having touched it.
