I actually went to Colorado, specifically Colorado Springs.
It's been 30+ years since I went on a "vacation." and to be honest I cant say that this trip was a vacation. I just kept a promise to myself to do something in another state... it turns out that I totally reconnected with my son in the process.
From now on, I don't do vacations... I just go places and see whats up there... It worked once... I'm game to see if it works again.A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.

Hit up NYC in sept for a week and just got back last weekend from Vegas, may or may not post pics.
Have another vegas trip booked for March to see Shania Twain but before then its Punta Cana in February, have not been there yet so a nice 4 night trip should be just what the dr ordered."You know that little thing in your head that keeps you from saying things you shouldn't? It's actually summer where I am (New Zealand) but I'm off to Everest Base Camp this month. Fly out Boxing Day, then hiking up from Lukla, to Base Camp, then back via Gokyo Lakes. Will be freezing but beautiful.
My work shuts down over Christmas so it was the easiest time to organise the time off (will take 3 weeks so a fair bit of annual leave).
Nervous but excited at the same time.

Just got back from my first vacation (of more than five days) in 32 years. Took a 5 day Carnival Cruise to Grand Kayman and Cozamel then spent 4 days in Clear Water Florida with a side trip to Sanibel.
It was a blast. I played in the ocean waves with the joy of a toddler who was just given their first chocolate bar. I didn't need anything touristy tbh. The ocean was very much all I needed.
I have two cruises and a resort stay in Cancun penciled in for next year, two float trips and a weekend in Las Vegas.
Definitely making up for lost time.
A few pics
I saw some amazing Sunsets. I made sure I saw as many as I could
Sunset in Clearwater Florida
Snorkeling in Cozumel
One of 2019's goals was to get my passport stamped. I did.
Walking out of the ocean like a Sea Titan preparing to smash some random Japanese village into smithereens.
We also stopped by Memphis and walked on Beale Street for a bit. It was a blast.
I will definitely be going back in 2020.
I'll be updating my blog site soon. There are a few blog posts from earlier this year if anyone cares to check in out.

One of the skydivers landing in the stadium during pregame festivities for a game we attended while visiting Nashville which is a hell of a city, tons to see and do there.
Part of the Country Music Hall of Fame, this place was pretty damn cool with a lot to see.
Ever thought Cooter would have his own place?
Inside one of Makers Marks storehouses, very nice tour by the way.
Every bottle is hand dipped.

Attended opening day of the NFL and went to a Jets vs Bills game in New Jersey, train takes you to the middle of nowhere,,,seriously there isn't a single store or restaurant of any type for miles around that place.
NYC was fun, hit up all 5 boroughs , saw Yankee stadium, went to the Bronx zoo, etc. Definitely going back.

A few pics posted. I'l do better the next time.
At first I didn't like the cruise but it grew on me. We went on a Carnival and it was pretty cheap, the service awesome and it was nice to have food and drink available whenever.
Another thing I enjoyed was just being surrounded by ocean. Often there would be nothing in sight. No land, no ships, no nothing. I really was looking forward to just seeing the vastness of the ocean. The ocean did not disappoint.
I think I would have preferred an adults only cruise. There were a few kids and they were by no means obnoxious.
The cons are that you won't spend much time at any given stop, and I didn't like the burden of knowing that I had deadlines to get back or I would be stuck.
We considered this our "Training vacation." We did learn much about what we actually needed and got over the intimidation of traveling outside the country.
We are considering two cruises in 2020. Were taking groups who were jealous of all our photos and we'll be doing a resort in Cancun. I'm thinking the resort will be more my speed. No deadlines and no worries of getting stranded, and it will be an adults only resort.A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.

Punta Cana was great, gorgeous beaches and a fantastic resort.

Just fulfilled a lifelong dream and bought myself a campervan (VW T6), so my holidays/vacations will be a little closer to home. We have the Scotland Route 66 planned (NC 500), Its a 500 mile drive around the coastal road of Scotland. Our plan is to wild camp and do the full route over a two week period.
Here is Ernie.

Absolutely beautiful, I've been out and about on various bits of it, when a kid spent some time up near Lochinver/Ullapol/Unapool area, good for some seriously remote walking if you decide to stretch your legs mid drive and go for a bit of a walk.
If you're adventurous maybe you could stay here https://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/b...lands/suileag/ and walk up Suilven https://www.google.com/search?q=suil...w=1280&bih=881
You'd need to be completely self sufficient though food/water purifying tablets/loo-roll/trowel/everything, but it'll be worth it... memorable.
Warning: consider the time of year and midge season

We will be doing lots of walking, I'm starting to gather a list of places I need to see so will take a good look at the links you sent, thanks. My wife and I are doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks in May so our hill walking training has started..
I've always wanted to sleep in a bothy so we might just do that, I love open water swimming as well so I'll be doing that to get away from the midges!! (in a wet suit of course)!

Nice pic! You have adequate detail/exposure on dark-areas (e.g. your dog) and simultaneously you've got great bright-area detail/exposure (e.g. those moody looking clouds). Have you got some fancy camera?
My update for the over 35 Staycation thread...
Was due to go to Butlins (Bognor) this weekend, youngest is still young enough to enjoy it, the other 2 can just sulk on on their phones and say how unfair everything is.
Or... I was going. It'll be a staycation instead.Last edited by OldFartTom; 04-09-2020 at 02:52 AM.
