Had to cancel / postpone a vegas trip for this past march but I did score dirt cheap rd trip tickets to Phoenix for the end of October, couldn't pass up $98.

I've got a €500 deposit on a hotel for 9 nights in August in Corfu (Kerkyra), paid in December.

Plus... I've paid in full for 5 people's return flights (British Airways, including their travel insurance) which is nearly £1,800. Booked in December.

I'm a bit nervous how this is going to turn out.

Any of you guys got holidays booked?

Just cancelled my vacation in May.

I'll just take a Friday off to work more in the garden.
    Cycling, walking, swimming.
    No car.

I'm curious, when The Big Cough is over and travel restrictions are lifted, will you travel right away or will you wait a bit out of concerns that it might not be quite safe to travel just yet?

I'm not sure how quickly I will get on a plane again, but a road trip will be most welcome.

I tell you this, I will never take travel, or the theatre, or restaurants, or music concerts for granted again.

I'll travel again in a heartbeat but it would depend on where to, not going into the middle of Manhatten for awhile and would definitely wait for Vegas to get everything up and running smoothly for a bit before venturing there. Next plane trip isn't until the end of October so no worries there. We are planning on a roadtrip out east to Maine, Vermont and then up to Ottawa and Toronto so you folks had better have everything smoothed out and running like a well oiled clock by the end of august.

When you hit Toronto we have to get together! We'll show you some of the sights.

You will love Ottawa. It is a clean, quiet, pretty city that is rich in history. We are seriously considering Ottawa or Montreal (just as rich in history but more lively than Ottawa) as cities to retire to (or move to when our kids don't need us anymore).

Have been all over western Canada and have hit up Niagara Falls and traveled through to Detroit. Toronto has been on the list for a number of years. I need one of Jims legendary steaks

I'm thinking that there should be a Home and Garden thread as it seems like so many people are taking the time to remodel.

So far my New Orleans trip in March got cancelled, my April Las Vegas trip is cancelled. I had two cruises booked this year but my booty isn't getting in a cruise line until there is a vaccine and at least one of my Cancuun trips is cancelled. I was so looking forward to some debauchery at Temptations.

So I bought a 1966 Aloha camper and slowly working on fixing it up. I'm thinking camping is going to be ok when the country opens up as social isolation is kinda the point of camping.

No vacations happening so I thought I'd post some pictures of yesterdays day trip to a local reservoir (Ladybower). Construction started in 1902 and finished in 1914, it took 2 years before it filled and overflowed in 1916.

We did a 10 mile circular walk.

We took the car, got their before 9AM and it was already busy!!! We managed to get the last parking spot in one of the larger car parks... when leaving it was chaos with cars dumped all over the place!!

Just saw the news alert about the F-15... Hope they find the pilot alive.

They are plug holes, used for draining the reservoir when it over-fills. I've never seen them in action as the water level is always low when we visit, we are going to go in the middle of winter and hopefully see them draining.

If your interested, scroll down through this story and you can see a video of them draining https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-50157693

Well this yr has absolutely sucked for vacations, still have Phoenix and Miami for later this yr, hopefully those still happen.

Just booked a trip for April as surely this bs has to be done and over by then? A week in Cartagena Colombia right off the ocean, haven't been to S. America yet so looking forward to that.

I got married in March.... week before everything shut down. Was supposed to go to Italy and Spain in June for Honeymoon, obviously that didn't happen. We even had tickets to see Pearl Jam in Italy on July 6th.

Now just hoping we can go next summer.

The only place I've traveled since the pandemic started was Chicago to visit family and friends. Fly was super easy though; I wish it was always like this getting through an airport lol.

Went to Visby, Gotland for a week to relax and explore some history of the place. It's been a hub for transit trade for basically thousands of years, and was Scandinavia's biggest city way back. After the Danes destroyed it, in the 1500's I think, it never really recovered but it is a nice vacation spot today. Very relaxing and slow pace place - would recommend and will absolutely go back there some day.

I put some of my pics in this online album - hope the link works ok:

Nice photos Steffo. Looks like a beautiful city. Swedes are pretty alpha towards the China virus. Old folks don't seem to worry with masking up. Stay safe out there.

Thanks man, yeah I don't see that many wearing masks but at the airport they were strict about it so that's the only place I used one...I guess I liked looking like medical staff for a bit. Used a plastic glove a few times shopping but that's about it.

On holiday at moment, today I took my son (age 13) on a ermm... "Walk" as follows, see this description.

    http://snakesladdersandtunnels.blogs...d-tunnels.html

Although I couldn't persuade him to continue into the lost world and Mordor, great shame, but he was slow and getting very tired and it was probably too much for him, so for safety I didn't push the issue. I had to literally haul him (with pulleys) up the "snake" (chain) at the start.

All good entertainment, but the ladders of Australia are in a very rusty state and think it won't be long now before some finally collapse, very wobbly where the supports are rusting through

No exciting action photos sorry, I don't take any that self-incriminate. My wife doesn't approve! How would I explain why my son was wearing a helmet with a torch and wearing a climbing harness, or why we're climbing up something, or abseiling into a tunnel etc etc. That would end in divorce, no pics taken

The ladders are so wobbly, it's not a matter of the ladders themselves flexing, the problem is that the supports are loose! As you step mid air (often a big sideways step) from the top of one section across to the bottom of the next section, the whole next ladder section shifts as you weight it. There's a question about roping it for a nervous second, should a leader clip a runner in case of fall? If you do it might be slightly safer for the leader (falling due to rusty rungs snapping off etc) but then if the ladders collapse when the second climbs the rope will be clipped to the collapsing ladders and iron work. Safest is often for the leader to place no runners if bringing up a second on rope? maybe? (safest is not to go there at all )

EDIT: What I'd really like to try is another ermm.. "walk" around the quarries called "Hobbits, Ladders & Tunnels" although I would need to find someone other than my son as that is Not a route for taking kids. Graded XS (obscure UK climbing grade rarely used, equivalent to US grade R/X) also I'm concerned how thin and hobbit size you need to be to complete the squeeze without getting stuck (1:30-2:00) and also the climbing at 2:30-3:05 looks... "interesting". One to look forward to another holiday maybe?

Not much in the way of vacations this year as you'd probably expect. But I did get chance to go for another "walk" last week. It was under Moelwyn Mawr in southern Snowdonia (North Wales). set off shortly before sunset Thurs 22nd and finished early hours Friday morning. Had to be out of Wales again before that evening as they were starting a lockdown at 6pm.

Took an old friend with me who has never done any caving/climbing etc but he's very practical and I knew he could learn things like rappelling (or "abseil" in the English speaking world) and climbing up ropes, etc, on the spot (although in general I don't endorse it for beginners)

Me posing my extreme DYEL physique in a wobbly canoe that has a lot of water in it. The backpack is heavy, the water is deep and I'm worried if I fall it I might drown. I am nearly able to fake a smile. It's just after midnight early Friday morning and about 400 foot beneath Llyn Croesor

Any UK folks wanting to go on the same walk after lockdown, see: https://ukcaving.com/wiki/index.php/...d_Through_Trip I thoroughly recommend it, it's a classic. One of the best walks in Wales. I broke my expensive diving torch but enjoyed it all so much I still came out smiling!

In Phoenix right now, arrived this morning for a 4 night stay, it’s a $hithole.

Didn’t come here for this city though, hitting up several national parks & Tombstone amongst other stuff. Managed to get a 330i BMW for $10 a day more than a Camry, 1st BMW I have driven & honestly I don’t like it & should have taken the Audi or Escalade instead.
