Adding another couple of pics from my previous post as people seem to enjoy pics more than my waffle. Taken 23/10/2020 just before they started their "firebreak" lockdown so I was about to leave Wales when I took them
Borth y Gest
Picture taken roughly from this location (actually on beach other side of those buildings) https://www.google.com/maps/@52.9150...7i13312!8i6656
Moelwyn Mawr in the distance (it's the rounded one on the right, which I was walking under during the night thurs-Fri)
Picture taken roughly here (although crossing the lines of steam railway and standing by wall) https://www.google.com/maps/@52.9248...7i16384!8i8192
Edit: in the Google streetview the steam train is just leaving the station if you want to "walk" 20 yards down the road (out of town) from the location linked above to look at it. Wasn't running the day I was there due to end of season and lockdown etcLast edited by OldFartTom; 10-30-2020 at 02:47 AM.

Took a road trip last week down south for a job interview in Georgia, decided since we were in the area to check out Savannah and glad I did as it easily surpassed all expectations. You see it on tv like other cities but usually they fall far short but this is one city that lives up to the hype with the history, parks, architecture, the oaks with the spanish moss, etc. If you have never been there take the time to check it out.

OK, this isn't a vacation I've taken but I'd LOVE one day to visit Sicily and see this
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56170278 checkout those pics
Anyway, last Summer I didn't get a family vacation in Greece, but I was able to reschedule my flights at no cost and same with hotel booking (I'd paid a €500 deposit) to August this year.
My wife has been vaccinated but I haven't, because it is done on medical need/conditions (and age) so I won't be getting mine maybe until July as long as there are no delays in vaccine supply (for example the EU has been threatening to prevent export of vaccines and related materials to UK). So I don't know if I will be vaccinated before my vacation.
Greece is currently considering only allowing UK nationals to enter Greece once lockdown eased if they can prove vaccination. It's going to be interesting!

Hope you get to go Tom!
I'm planning to be in Dominican Republic for my 50th birthday!
I'm vaccinated but my wife isn't.
We'll have to test before going and before getting back on the plane home.
Things looking ok right now as long as they don't get worse! It's never too late!

Fuk it not worth all the trouble, canceling / postponing Cartagena until this fall, don't feel like dealing with covid tests before as well as another one while in Colombia and any other bs that may come with it.

San Antonio is one of my favorite cities to have a conference. Once you're at the Riverwalk you don't need to get transported anywhere else.
The first time there a colleague and I were sitting on a sofa in the hotel lobby staring out a window and wondering where the Alamo was. Was it outside of town somewhere, somewhere downtown...? Ask a hotel employee walking by "where is the Alamo?". He gave us a quizzical look and just pointed out the window. We were looking right at it a few hundred feet in front of us.

The "river" of the riverwalk is just a shallow concrete ditch diverted off a river, nothing much to it, but it's surrounded by shops and restaurants and hotels. I thought it was quite nice. I'd run on the riverwalk early a.m. and have it pretty much to myself. Everything was very close. A couple times I visited friends elsewhere in the city, but 95% of my time was in the hotel or out on the riverwalk. Never drove around there, just got a taxi from the airport to hotel and then was on foot. Walk out the street side of the hotel and you're in a very ordinary city, but the river side of the hotels is a nice hangout. Last time I was there has got to be 15 years ago, but I'm betting it's pretty much the same.
Oklahoma City has a riverwalk now. I wonder what that's like. I did some engineering work for it before it was built but have not been there since it was built.

Just got back from my first trip to the Caribbean and my first stay at an all-inclusive resort. Stayed in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Honestly it was exactly what I was wanting - a relaxing time without having to plan anything. Warm water, beautiful sand, drinks and food were easy if not high quality. Very friendly staff with a slight undercurrent of resentment.... but really, had a great time!

Last summer was supposed to be our San Diego stay-cation with this year being Hawaii. But of course things didn’t go as planned. So this summer will be San Diego. Looking to spend a week at a nice place right on the beach and take the kids to the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and Balboa Park museums. We might also do a side mini vacation to Arizona to see some family and do some sight seeing while there.
Next year we’re trying to decide on Maui or the Florida Keys.
