What a spectacular place! You would certainly want to take your time, relax, and stroll through the great sights the place has to offer rather than rushing. I expect it's hard to avoid the crowds at any time of the year.

Had to push Utah back a couple days as the vendor was having issues with a PLC but headed out tomorrow morning. I will be hitting Park City up as after I looked at SLC there is nothing to see there, at least Park City has the Olympic village and a bunch of what look like pretty cool bars and restaurants. They also offer a run down the bobsled track but its $175, wonder if work would bitch if I submit that in my expense account?

Interested to see who takes a vacation alone. I have a situation at home that keeps me from being able to get away and I've only been doing staycations for quite some time.

I used to get out to Hilton Head...really loved the laid back feeling there. Did the normal stuff, Disney, Orlando, North carolina and random business trips.

Although I don't know when my current situation will be over, I am guessing 1-2 years but when it is over I'm going to want someplace reasonably priced with sun, beaches and not a single care in the world and no crowds to have to fight through. Basically a week of "I don't want to deal with other tourists but want to be waited on hand and foot". LOL.

More involved vacations will come in time but this first one, whenever it happens, will be the reset button for me to start a new chapter in my life.......

Thanks for sharing the pics guys.

In my last year of high school a buddy and I headed to San Jose del Cabo at semester break. This would have been 1991 and at that time Los Cabos wasn't as established as a vacation / resort getaway. San Jose was just outside of Cabo San Lucas; a quiet little spot. The beaches were completely empty, in fact one day we went walking along the beach, totally alone until we saw a couple of figures off in the distance. As they approached and we could finally make them out we realized it was 2 heavily armed Policia. We kept our mouth shut and are eyes in front of us to say the least.....

Don't think I could do the single vacation as part of the fun is sharing memories. I'm in Provo Utah right now & I drove around & checked out BYU as well as the Harley dealer but honestly it's boring by myself.

I totally get it....When I have vacationed, it has been with others....this would be a rare exception for me to hit the reset button.

So does anyone have any trips coming up? Any past trips you want to discuss/show off?

I am still recovering financially from last year's adventures. Ukraine, Russia, Greece - Athens, Crete (Heraklion, Chania, Kolymbari), France. Overall 5 weeks. And second trip was to Thailand, Koh Chang for three weeks. Pictures are scattered around over a few cell phones, but I promise will post them here, there are things to show.

Where are the pics? And did you require a visa for Russia? And had to look up where Koh Chang was and see its near Cambodia, how was it compared to Phuket or Krabi if you have been near either of those?

L'viv (also Lvov) beautiful town in western Ukraine. Could easily compete with Prague or Paris.

now, Truskavetz, somewhere in Ukraine. Quiet little town, best known for its ground water which said to have healing properties. I did not expect much since it was an obligatory visit to some distant family from my wife's side, but it turned out good. And I bought an oak barrel for aging things (products) in it.

lets skip Kiev, ok. I was half drunk all the time and did not bother taking pictures. Next stop - Athens! Three days in Athens was excellent, I enjoyed walking through ruins. And Greeks are awesome people.

    Akropolis

roof top restaurant in the hotel we were staying at, with amazing view on Akropolis

ruins and more ruins and marble-paved streets

spent 8 days on Crete - awesome! Shoreline is like one big taverna smoothly rolling into another taverna. I could retire there and spearfish every day, but as it turns out, of our small group of 5 Canadians I was the only one enjoying it. Everybody else kept on comparing it to Thailand (cheaper food, massages etc).

Paris. The goal of my whole extended zig-zag trip over the Europe was to make it to Notre Dame. And there it is, still standing. 700 years flew by it. Gargoyles and chimeras, I felt finally an accomplished man. I could die and it would not matter, because I have seen it and walked through it.

and Louvre of course. I will be back to see more of it. Could briefly walk through only tiny fraction of what is in there.

Very cool pictures, thanks for taking the time to post them. Notre Dame is impressive no doubt but have you been to St Peters yet?
And why would anyone compare Crete to Thailand? They are nothing alike are they?

No I haven’t had a chance to visit St Peter, too little time, and honestly if I had more time I would probably spend it in Louvre. It Is Huge.

About Crete and Thailand, to understand why, you would have to adopt mentality of vacationers who simply want warmer sea and cheaper food, cheaper and shorter flights etc. You would have to be immune to Socrates Square and Minoan civilization. Crete was my idea. They were not comparing the two as something similar, rather how much we would have spent for same meal if we were in Thailand, this kind of comparison. Everybody seemed to be able to make the most of it and enjoy Crete, but none of them will be coming back. We actually flew to Thailand 5 months later, the same group of people.

In a couple weeks we are heading to New Orleans (we go every year) we will hang out there for a while then head up to Memphis and hang on Beale street for a few days then cut over to Virginia Beach for a couple days to finish it off. Just under 2 weeks. I can't wait!

Can confirm. I’ve been to the Louvre three times on three separate trips, probably half a day visit each, and still haven’t seen the whole thing.

    Seen the violence 1st hand

Read the travel advisory. Not worth the risk for a cheap-ish vacation.

I have no dog in this fight but I will tell you the violence is vastly over stated and is primarily between the cartels and other gangs as well as the police and or politicians who are trying to shut them down. I promise you will not see a shred of evidence of violence so longas you stick to the tourist towns such as Cancun, Playa, PV, Cabo, etc etc. Hell I was in Thailand when they were under a travel advisory because they had some civil actions taking place against the King, we had a great time and never saw squat.

Of course our own media here would have you believe that Washington DC was filled with violence during Trumps inauguration and my wife & I were there, the only violence was literally confined to 1 block and the only time they would do anything was when a TV camera was on them.

I’m sure you’re right. I also read the State Department’s assessment, not CNN’s.

With all the places to visit in the world, it isn’t worth the risk.

I should have just updated this thread, my bad fellas, I seem to forget there are some threads specific to certain topics

Here are a few pics from my 7 day cruise to Bermuda.

I will update this later today with some pics of the ship and the inside.
