Is it possible to be built for 1-2 rep maxes and 5 or more?

Its weird but I feel "better" going for a 1 or 2 rep max than 5 reps on stuff like squats and deads. I think for compounds my body responds better to heavier weight for very very low reps. For example I can squat 315 but with 275 I grind it out at the 3 or 4th rep before racking it in exhausting. Is this normal? Am I not resting enough between sets or if it possible to be built for such low reps?

Well. I'm kind of in the same situation as you right now. I can 1rm 435 for squat, but I only did 315 for max for 8 reps, and then 365 for 5 easy. My guess it's that it is mental, the approach you take before lifting certain weight changes depending on how much you are going to do. Fun fact I have a friend who can squat 315 for more than 8 reps (most he has ever done was 10) But can only squat 385lbs for 1RM. Might I add that he is 165lbs BW and I am 215lbs.
