Is it to late to start wrestling

I am a gonna be a junior in highschool and I am pissed I didn't start wrestling earlier in my life, coaches would always try to get me on the team or ask me to but my interest were in karate, boxing,Muay Thai at the times did striking for about 10 years,I want to wrestle I am a extremely competitive person I really want to compete I am athletic and willing to put in as much work as necessary and some I will be the first person on the mat and last.do I need experience to wrestle or Good grades will I get rejected because of lack of experience. It would be my dream to wrestle D1 in college. I cut out everyone in my life to focus on getting in the best physical shape so I can be the best wrestler I am 16. I eat sleep and workout all day intensely.

Working out all day long is no substitute for actual mat time. try to find a summer camp or clinics you can go to this summer to start to learn.

    I wouldn't expect a scholarship to a D1 school. Why?

I'm assuming that every state is like Illinois (with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii) and they have 3 divisions for high school wrestling (based off size of high school, not necisarly skill). So in theory, each state will have 3 state champions a year in a single weight class. That's around 150 state champions for the same weight class in the nation. There are 77 D1 wrestling programs. I think it's safe to say the scholarships will go to multiple year state championship winners.

Simply put expect to suck for the majority of your first season. Just be there, absorb everything you can and just learn and get better. Then in the offseason join clubs, really spend a lot of time on the mat. Then maybe in your senior year you will do much better. You might even start. If you're a real rocky balbo type of guy you might even make it to state (like a 1% chance). From there, pick a GOOD school (academically), and if they have a wrestling program that has walk ons try out for it. If not, BJJ is fun as hell. So is submission wrestling.

And don't cut everyone out....it's wrestling...even if you do become the best you're not gonna make a career out of it. Live a balanced life before you burn yourself out. Loneliness is the best way to quit.

I mean, actually wrestling with other wrestlers in a club. You are going to need to make varsity this year before you get a "D1" scholarship.

Sorry but there's no way you're going to go D1 or even D2 if you're only wrestling once a week.

i dont think he has even actually wrestled, just done conditioning work outs.

OP wont even make varsity, much less start, much less get a scholarship.

My bet is he'll decide in a few months he will just wait till college and "walk on" to Iowa's team.
