Last time I checked, bodybuilding required none of these with the exception of getting stronger to gain more size, but again, you're not judged on your strength, you're judged on your appearance on stage.
Brb, having elite genetics, copious amounts of skittles on hand, and the time to lift weights and shove down copious amounts of food all day then subsequently starving yourself makes someone an athlete. Doesn't matter if you can't walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded.

brb having to adjust your caloric intake for the day
brb forcing yourself to go to the gym and workout
brb making sure you're getting quality sleep
brb "sorry brah, can't go out this weekend, i don't drink alcohol"
brb going weeks without having any carbs because trying to lose fat
brb dehydrating yourself 2 days before competition

You train yourself to learn proper form, you train yourself and your body by doing exercises. You compete in competitions that involve stamina and strength. Have you ever been on stage before? Just stand in front of your bathroom mirror and stay flexed while hitting different poses for 15-20 minutes straight.
I'm not saying it's the toughest sport ever, but for crying out loud this is a bodybuilding forum and you're taking away what these people work so hard for because you think running up and down a court shooting a ball into a basket is more athletic then someone who trains consistently every day.

Nobody ever said they don't work hard
Nobody says it isn't a very difficult thing to do
But you have to be able to poke fun at yourself and see things how they truly are. The actual competition aspect of bodybuilding is not a sport. It is literally a beauty pageant for men. The way bodybuilders obtain those muscles is athletic, but I wouldn't necessarily call someone who lifts weights a few times a week an athlete just because they lift weights, otherwise every single gym goer is an athlete. I think the word athlete used to mean a certain type of individual, but now it seems everyone wants to label themselves as athletes.

And I'd have to strongly disagree with you on the contribution thing. I'm not here posting about selling you my new supplement line or some fuk'n t shirts. I'm defending the sport of bodybuilding. I would say they are athleticism but not in thentradtional sense cause they are fighting and competing against them self. Its a paradox and it drives them as it does anyone who works out hard.
Sometimes you can be the hardest opponent you will ever face. You. Challenge yourself.
I use to love that feeling. You go running/jogging and tell your seklf three miles and at the endmof tjenfitrst you are already cramping and hurting and dry heaving. But push through it and fight it.
No drug in The world compares to the feeling you have when you finish and you beat yourself.
I'd give every substance in thee world away in a heartbeat if I could find that person inside me again
