Ok, you gals that actually post in the regular Misc. section - how the fek do you make it through? On boring work days like this I look to see what's being posted and I cannot get through half those posts. I feel like I lose brain cells every time. Maybe because I find even the entertaining usually. If it is just too ick I click out and scroll on.

I have learned things. Things that I surely didn't need to know and in some cases didn't want to know. Good to realize when you really just don't want to know.

Could be that I have a relatively high tolerance though too..3 brothers ages 44, 35, and 26. We often had their friends hanging around too, so kind of an exposure therapy if you will.

I give advice, joke, or try to rustle them as the mood strikes me. All in fun.

hahaha I agree! Most of the time I just laugh. Some of the stuff that is posted is so blatantly sexist and straight up bizarre though! I have a strong desire to comment in order to break up the conversation, raise awareness about double standards and stuff, or to just offer advice in a way that is just not sexist. Perhaps I will try and engage.

Some of the threads are very funny. Many make me scratch my head but mostly I read for laughs. I didn't have brothers or really hang out with guys when I was younger. It's kind of interesting to read/see the stuff they post about. They can be very tough on each other but then there are some genuinely nice threads.

I like it there, it's cool to read how men really talk among themselves. I like the sense of humor and the straightforwardness. Also if you sift through the locker room talk there's actually a lot of good insight and good discussions to be found.

I'm in the military, currently serving in an infantry unit, so while I appreciate knowing how guys talking when they're "among themselves", it's also supremely frustrating because it makes me question whether my superiors, peers, or subordinates think this way about me and just don't say it to my face.

It seems like every thread is some dude whining because ladies aren't throwing sex at them, or some dude bitching because all women are "sloots" or whatever is the preferred jargon du misc, etc etc. Any posts by women have one or more guys being like, "oh you're a girl in the misc? Of COURSE your thread is glowing green," or calling the OP an attention whore.

I spent a lot of time on forums like this one, ars technica, etc, years back...and I chalked that shiz up to "boys will be boys" when I was younger, but I find that I lack patience for it now. I don't post in misc threads because I don't want to get riled up and go stomping in there to school people on vaginas, the Constitution, or women in the service, get into a comments section throw-down, and then get negged into oblivion. I do venture in there to read on boring work days, but I generally have to click out after max 15 minutes in deference to my blood pressure.

Love the regular MISC, that's my favorite part of this whole site, very funny, and thought provoking at times. A lot of chit in there is very easy to relate to, comforting even, like oh thank god other people think like this and I'm not a raging maniac. There's a lot of honesty and openness to what's posted over there.

I really enjoy the regular misc too. I post there on occasion, but I mostly just read for my entertainment. I especially like those threads that are like "might have knocked up random sloot...wut do? (srs) (pics)." I subscribe and return for updates.

At first some of the things I read there, especially the things about women, would make me angry, but I've come to realize that most of them aren't serious.

I post a decent amount there too. Mostly just to inject some female perspective into those "omg all women are sloots" threads. When I first saw some of those I would legitimately get upset and ask my bf if this is how men really are. Now I know the vast majority of them would not dare say half that bs to their wife/gf. Literally just locker room talk.

So I responded to several post in regular misc, and now felt totally embarrassed, like I have stepped into men's bathroom...

I learned my lesson, and will never write anything to regular misc any more

Even if you're new how is it possible not to notice what kind of place it is just by looking at the titles? Do you normally just start posting without reading anyone else's posts first? Also, it says under the misc title that some of the content not suitable for women, so I don't get how someone can "accidentally" post there without knowing what kind of place it is.

No, I just click today's new post. There is a button just for that.

Seriously, when you click on new posts, it's like 90% Misc, 5% politics and religion and the other 5% on everything else. I never really venture into the Misc but I see them if I'm bored and click on the new posts link

The worst part is that if I check from my cell phone, it didn't indicate which forum am I in =).

I will only see the forum if I check from my laptop.

However, I love this website! I get so much fitness information from here than from anywhere else =)

I am still learning. I have never found fitness to be so much fun! =)

I just have to laugh at all the man-tears in there. Yesterday there was a whole post about why good looking guys get with "fat, butch women", and a bunch of speculation about why guys don't feel like they deserve 9/10s. I wanted to go in there and ask the posters why it mattered. Why do they care so much about the sex other people are having, and with whom?

My other favorite line of conversation in the misc is the guys who complain that they can't get girls or that girls are all "slooty" and "materialistic" and they all want "Chads" -- but then they have threads where they talk about how Rosamund Pike is, at best, a 6/10 would-not-smash. "My standards are high, I will only sleep with 8-9/10s" in the same breath as "women today are such materialistic whores who only care about looks." I'm like, hmm.

Sometimes I'm VERY tempted to go in there and be like, yall need to quit bitching because literally nothing on the planet is less attractive than a guy whining that he can't get laid. But most of the posts are trolling, anyway, so it'd be a waste of time.

I actually agree even though I haven't and probably will never meet any of the Miscers. They all have this tough facade they put out there. But had a couple of them PMing me for dating advice and they sounded perfectly normal and respectful.

Some of them make me worried I'm witnessing the making of a serial killer though lol (the ones that make 15 threads a day about how they're virgins and women are Satan's spawns). A lot of them are younger too 18-22 and haven't experienced life much or had the opportunity to mature. I wouldn't go in there unless you have super thick skin and just troll them right back.

I was in the Army, doing nothing of note, but I can tell you: they probably are.

Back in civvy world, men don't talk like that, mostly. But the infantry turns the Boy's Club factor up to 11. The infantry has its long traditions and spending weeks not showering, eating crap food and having Afghan goatherds shoot at you tends to macho everything up. The Misc has online anonymity which leads to the same result: nastier sht-talking than you get on Civvy Street.

So Paichka may have to worry a bit, but most of the women here can rest easy expecting that the men they know probably don't talk like that about them in their absence. I mean, every group of friends has That One Guy everyone else rolls their eyes at. But that's just one guy, you need 2-3 of them for talk to really get nasty. Normally we do say sexist things, just as women do when around only women. But it's a 3-5 on the Nasty Scale, not an 11.

I wouldn't recommend a woman (or gay person, for that matter) join the military, or at the least not the infantry, nor would I recommend they read or post on the Misc. The military can and should deal with that sht, but they usually don't; here we as mods try to do better than that.

Never post in female misc but I'll offer my perspective. The misc is the most realistic and accurate portrayal of women you're going to see. Ignoring obvious trolling, more often than not, the misc is right about women (srs).

Also, most female miscers will get outclassed in any debate, so start crying about "misogyny" as a coping mechanism lol.

The misc makes me murderously angry and makes me wonder what the **** is wrong with men and the planet. I really hope none of my guy friends are secretly like miscers because if I find that out I'll slap them round the back of the head, knee them in the nuts and tell them to run. Literally cannot tolerate it they are sick little morons and the only reason I go on there is to tell them no wonder they are alone because they are arseholes. Theres an occasional thread that I can actually be sympathetic towards cos the guy is just lonely or geniunely looking for advice and then I might give some. But even then the replies he'll get from other miscers are stupid ****. When there are blatantly offensive threads sometimes like 2 decent guys out of 100 post calling out the morons but I'm pretty sure they get bored of it pretty quickly and leave.

Yeahhhh, I don't venture that direction. I come here to help and be helped. Not irritated and enraged to the point I want to stab my own eyes out with a fork, and that my friends is what the misc does to me. Pretty much any of the 'dude' areas frankly. When someone does come in with a legit question, 90% of all responses are something along the lines of, 'pics or it didn't happen', or 'gainz bro'. It literally. Makes. Me. Insane.

I think the Misc is hilarious. Since the female section is so dead, I've jumped in there when I felt like I have something to add to the conversation. What I have to say mostly gets ignored, but that's not surprising as they clearly don't want to hear rational female wisdom. lol Which is fine. It's def fun to read, though.

In fact it's rather formulaic apart from a few interesting and amusing posters. And there's quite a few decent people in there. You'd just never go there for help or when feeling vulnerable

I do it mainly cos I enjoy it, like giving a female perspective and generally have a healthy sense of self. sometimes cos I worry there's a proportion who take it as real and sometimes there's real cries for help in there. There needs to be oppposing voices to the misc troll vibe sometimes, but other times the joke can just play out.

I suppose sometimes I do it cos I work with vulnerable, mainly male, teens and here I can say more what I think without having to fill out paperwork in triplicate afterwards.
